LOL wow you really are as stupid as you sounded in your first post. Saying someone should get there ass kicked after being handcuffed is just plain idiotic and shows what kind of person you are. If a cop does something like that they should be changed with assault.

Reading is not your strong suit, is it? Try again, sport. That's not what I said.

I totally got your point.. deserve is not the same expect.. People who do stupid shit SHOULD expect negative consequences.. doesn't mean that they deserve them under any reasonable system of morality.

It says they pulled her over because she was riding her bicycle on the sidewalk - clearly something that warrants getting punched in the face while being handcuffed.

Why was she arrested? would be interesting to know....

Also good for her, that cop was a dumbass and deserves to get fined at the least, hope she wins a boatload of money.
Hell back in the late 60's early 70's when I was a teenager/young adult it was an every day occurrence. Cops would beat the crap out of us, send up to the Hospital and then ship us to County Jail and press charges for resisting arrest because we'd try to block the blows from their night sticks. If you fought back you'd get beat up even worse, Rodney King style and this wasn't South Central, this was in San Jose CA.

Exactly - cops have been beating the shit out of people and doing other unlawful things for years, the only difference is that now they have a built in camera in their patrol car.

I have known good cops and I have encountered bad cops. Cops are people just like you and me, just like at any job you'll have dickheads and you'll have cool people, and you'll have people in between that just quietly do their job.

While it's true that cops have to deal with the scum of society on a daily basis, and get to see the worst that humanity has to offer, some people just find it as an excuse to let out their inner demon and become villainous. The ones that are breaking the law themselves, such as the one in this video, should be held accountable for their actions so that the police force can remain a benefit to society.

The lady was just riding her bicycle on the sidewalk, which is the equivalent of jaywalking. It's a minor infraction and the cop felt like being a dick and taking his rage out on someone.

I fucking hate cops hassling cyclists. I have ridden on the sidewalk plenty of times because it is obviously the safest spot, for example a residential neighborhood with little or no foot traffic but a narrow, busy road, I might go on the sidewalk to get out of the way of all the cars (who have to go into the oncoming lane to get around me). Cyclists deserve some leeway in how they use the road because conditions warrant different responses.

ok first off I really don't feel sorry for the girl on the bike but i do agree with her lawsuit.

the officer is struggling with her and goes to mace her..but misses and gets himself (hahah idiot). help comes and he walks off. the other officers finally get handcuffs on her.

So the first officer walks over (while she is handcuffed) and punches her in the face a bunch of times.

So now you know. if the officer pulls mace MAKE SURE he gets you. if not he will get all pissy and come hit you.

I would never resist arrest. But, if the arresting officer, for some perceived reason, decides to mace me, and accidentally maces himself instead, I think I'd MUCH rather that he hit himself with the mace and me with his fist, particularly since the latter also results in $$$$$ for me. (I'm betting 5 figures.)

Most are too chicken shit to do the hard and dangerous work of undercover or drug land busts in heavily armed inner city. Rather troll the streets, in their bubble, their cruiser, when not taking 2 hour on the clock breaks at Krispy Kream, looking for petty crime. Like a woman to sweat in the middle of the night on an empty sidewalk..

I know plenty of cops, like them fine as people, but at least 50% are laziest people I have ever known. One guy my age can't even make it across a corn field (we hunt together) w/o huffing and puffing and damn near dying. How can you expect them to go after real criminals, real danger? All he talks about is his sweet retirement. I told him if he doesn't get in shape he won't be getting any retirement because he won't make it that far... anyway...

We also saw in New Orleans this phenomena of "you don't pay me enough for this shit" - as they abandoned the city in it's need.

No it doesn't. What possible events could have happened before hand to justify the cops actions?

Your best bet is to comply with the commands of the officer, regardless of if they are right or not.

I'm definitely not defending the guy here, a police officer should never strike anyone with his hands. If the situation is so drastic that someone needs to be struck, thats why you have a police baton. And three officers should be able to get the cuffs on 99.9% of the population with general ease.

Looks like she has a good case.

Agree. There really is no defense for what he did.

As for stopping someone for riding a bike on the sidewalk - that's how they fight crime. They catch someone doing something minor and often that leads to the discovery of something more significant. If she had cooperated, he probably would have let her go with a warning. If she cooperated and he gave her a ticket, then he's a dick.

That is how you fight crime soviet style. Make sure everyone is a criminal and therefor if some one does something to piss off a cop they can arrest them. Haven't made your quota for the week, well harass random people and you will.

Sure, it happens. Now explain the other cops actions doing nothing to stop a felony battery?

Is that..
Free pass?
Professional courtesy?

That's why she will win a big award. Part of damages are punitive which basically means how much money is effective so you, and your department won't do this again.

Sidewalks are for pedestrians and streets are for vehicles, with bicycles being in the latter category. Granted, if it wasn't for my father being a cop, and a bicyclist as well, I probably wouldn't know that either. I doubt many people know that law since it is rarely enforced outside of harassing people deemed suspicious.

It is really a stupid law, and I break it regularly when on busy streets with open sidewalks next to them. Fortunately, being your basically your average white middle class man, cops have no reason to consider me suspicious, but I do empathise with all the other people who do get harassed over such nonsense.
