this is why you make sure when the cop goes to mace you you let him get you!

ok first off I really don't feel sorry for the girl on the bike but i do agree with her lawsuit.

the officer is struggling with her and goes to mace her..but misses and gets himself (hahah idiot). help comes and he walks off. the other officers finally get handcuffs on her.

So the first officer walks over (while she is handcuffed) and punches her in the face a bunch of times.

So now you know. if the officer pulls mace MAKE SURE he gets you. if not he will get all pissy and come hit you.

sounds about right. When a police officer approaches me I mace and taze myself just to be safe.

Your best bet is to comply with the commands of the officer, regardless of if they are right or not.

I'm definitely not defending the guy here, a police officer should never strike anyone with his hands. If the situation is so drastic that someone needs to be struck, thats why you have a police baton. And three officers should be able to get the cuffs on 99.9% of the population with general ease.

Looks like she has a good case.

Hell no... he may mistake his pistol for his mace or taser... then he caps you in the face.

Is there not enough real crime for cops to deal with? Why are they macing someone who's riding her bike on the sidewalk late at night?

Agree. There really is no defense for what he did.

As for stopping someone for riding a bike on the sidewalk - that's how they fight crime. They catch someone doing something minor and often that leads to the discovery of something more significant. If she had cooperated, he probably would have let her go with a warning. If she cooperated and he gave her a ticket, then he's a dick.

Shit like this is why I maintain that the sorts of people who actively pursue the career of police officer are often the unstable sort of people who should never be allowed to posses firearms.

I disagree. i know 4 Police officers and they are great. But i do agree that police work is the type that brings in the majority of the bad ones.

police have so much power that it is bound to attract the bullies of society. But to say that the majority are unstable is just plain ignorant.

i wouldn't say "often" is the same as "majority."

I would say that often is far too fucking often that I, personally, as a citizen feel comfortable with. I also have to admit that I don't have a solution to the problem, just that I recognize it.

edit: You'd hope that the psych tests would screen out the bad seeds yet.. shit like this still happens.

worse still..

Much of it happens without a camera present where it comes down to the word of our trusted law enforcement officer vs the word of a criminal.. Not a great system, but again.. I don't have a better suggestion. Just pointing out the flaws.

That's one conclusion you could reach. Another conclusion you could reach is that dealing with scumbags on a daily basis eventually pushes people to react in ways that they otherwise would not react.

Both are true to some extent, but both can be minimised with proper oversight.

is it illegal to ride a bike on a unpopulated sidewalk? Other then that, I'm pretty sure the cop that was maced, couldn't really tell if he was off camera or not.

Just think of all the people that get the shit beat out of them because the cop knows when your in or outside of the camera angle views. I bet if you ask any cop they all know where to take you if they want to do something bad.

Why was she arrested? would be interesting to know....

Also good for her, that cop was a dumbass and deserves to get fined at the least, hope she wins a boatload of money.

Hell back in the late 60's early 70's when I was a teenager/young adult it was an every day occurrence. Cops would beat the crap out of us, send up to the Hospital and then ship us to County Jail and press charges for resisting arrest because we'd try to block the blows from their night sticks. If you fought back you'd get beat up even worse, Rodney King style and this wasn't South Central, this was in San Jose CA.

Speaking of mace, some morons tried to rob a jewelry store and maced the owner. Apparently they didn't get the memo that it's not so effective when the person is wearing glasses. Owner shot both of them.

Article mentions a drug warrant at the bottom but fails to explain it in detail.

I won't jump to conclusions about this. The whole story is not out and we don't know why she was stopped in the first place. Too many unknowns here. The video is damning but sometimes there are explanations for these apparent abuses.

You think the cop was maybe trying to do too many things at the same time??

Grab suspect, restrain suspect, pull suspect to the ground, cuff suspect, mace suspect, shoot self in the face with mace.

On one hand, she will win the case because clearly the officer shouldn't have punched her.

On the other hand, she's a fucking moron for resisting arrest and deserves to have the shit kicked out of her.

WOW you you are the biggest idiot I have ever seen, maybe a couple people should hold you down and kick your ass.

Cops have to much power and should be held to the same standard as the rest of us. They do terrible shit and there is an investigation, where they should be arrested and thrown in jail. Hell they are on video doing this shit and still they find it justified. Just because your following some bad procedure doesn't give you the right to do what ever you want. People make mistakes and they still go to jail police make a mistake it doesnt' really really matter.

What? I just said she will win the case and that the cop shouldn't have punched her. I also added that anyone stupid enough to resist arrest should expect a sound ass kicking, because that's usually what comes with it.

Go back to crying about the man, hippy. There is nothing idiotic about my post.
