I see your flying and raise you jumping...

Well I loved the HD shots, I just wish there was more of that footage and less chatter. I've seen some vids on YT where they put on the "flying suit" and extend their arms and can swoop around and travel vertically quite a while and extend the dive, that would be awesome, probably for advanced divers I would imagine..

Huh? 90% of commercial aviation jets max out at around 500MPH cruise

The max mach number for most commercial jets is mach .80. That comes to 600 MPH according to this, but mach has variables of course. http://www.kylesconverter.com/speed-or-velocity/mach-number-to-miles-per-hour

I can't remember how fast I was moving in the sim. in a 737NG. It's been awhile since I flown it, but I always cruised at the max I could could go sometimes pushing .82 mach. I will typically fly the F-22 and go mach 2.

Now before anyone gives me the bull shit that sims ain't real just think about the numbers.

Now that I think of it 600 MPH could be ground speed.

Yeah, it's all about fuel savings. In fact the FMC does a good job of that and the airlines all have their own numbers. Deratted thrust, cruise speed, etc.

That's impressive... I think that's the first 4K thing I've watched. Didn't think much of it at first then I realized what I thought were boats on a lake were ducks on a pond... and shortly after I realized I was seeing every leaf on every branch on every tree. Cool.

As for the original video I think some of you misunderstood its meaning. I look at it as the reason why pilots fly - to see the world in a way many others never get to see it and to leave all our troubles behind on the ground. Maybe I'm the one looking at it wrong though.

But between this post and the recent one about the Honda Jet not being roomy and luxurious enough it became very obvious... most people have never even sat in a general aviation aircraft before, let alone flown in one. All they know is the backseat of a commercial airliner as they fly from A to B. There is so, so much more to aviation than that. If you don't believe me and have any interest at all in finding out then go to one of your local airports, particularly the smaller ones, or best yet one that has a flying club. Ask to look around at the planes. Ask to go for a ride in one of the planes with someone who has a spare seat and is going up that afternoon anyway. The majority of general aviation pilots will be more than happy to take someone up for a ride who has never been before. That's how we share our passion with others, and that's where future pilots come from.

The "Why we fly" refers to the reason for the PILOTS, not the passengers.

The passengers fly to get places in hours instead of days/weeks.

Now that flight attendants aren't the pilots personal sex objects, I'd imagine they fly just for the views and the fun of actually piloting a plane.

Best flight I ever had: In beautiful daylight/weather from S. Germany to Southern Spain.

You take off and then it takes only a few minutes you can already faintly see the Alps.

Plane crosses the entire Alps in a south west direction, eg. over Switzerland and then France (amazing sights) and then you cross the blue Mediterranean Sea, see some Islands like Mallorca, Ibiza etc. So cool I had to re-fly the entire route on a simulator :)
