Did your parents ever say that when you were a kid? It's kinda like the old saying, "Because I told you so", but strikes me as more funny for some reason.

That was a staple in our house. Even better my mother would buy something like a bag of Oreos and they would be gone within a day or 2 because it was such a rare occurance at which time she would say "I'm not buying those anymore because you eat them all too fast". On the other hand if we would take a week or 2 to make the bag disappear then we would hear "I'm not buying those anymore because you don't eat them".

Hell yes it was a staple in my house when I was a kid too. I remember my Dad bitching us out when we got a new car after having the old one for 8 years. He said all the scratches down the sides was our fault. (Conveniently ignoring the time the car got keyed because my Mom swiped some guys parking lot and all the door dings, not to mention how most of the side moldings had fallen off)

It's true though. If you have kids or pets, you really can't have anything nice.

I hated my parents always telling me to take care of my stuff. Made me want to kick them. Heck, I've been working since I was a teenager and have always bought my own stuff.

The thing that confused the hell out of me when i was little was "I'll give you something to cry about!" because I would stop and think to myself "if you wanted me to stop crying, why would you give me something to cry about?"

That one is an admission of parental defeat and revenge all rolled into one. ;)

i say this to my kids as a joke, but only because i was told it as a kid. they saw it in a movie and thought it was funny, so its like a family inside joke now. the whole purpose of it is (at least that my kids and i can figure) to make you realize youre crying for no reason, and if you feel the need to keep crying, i will give you a reason for it.

if youor kids are under 9, i fully agree that its difficult to keep nice things nice. and have fun at the same time.

Entirely. Between my kids and my cats, they pretty much ruined all our nice, brand new furniture. I REFUSE to buy any new stuff at thsi point as it will just get ruined AGAIN.

Why? Why would that make you mad?
