Not to mention this went about as well as I thought.

"Cyclists should be hit"
"Don't complain about cyclists not following laws because: cars"

the obvious answer is to ticket the cyclists for breaking traffic laws just like the cops should ticket drivers for breaking traffic laws.

Bikes that I see out in NW Lake County IL all seem to stick to the right lane or dedicated bike lane while availalbe and generally they ride safely.

That said, a friend's brother who was an addict and an alcoholic crashed his bike into the side of a parked landscaping trailer because he was drunk and on drugs.

Maybe the bikers who are fucktarded are drunk and on drugs?

There are two types of cyclists. People who just enjoy riding, ride a plain 10-speed or mountain bike in street clothes or maybe gym clothes. These people generally are courteous while riding and try to be unobtrusive.

The other type, they ride expensive "racing" bikes, wear colorful "racing" unitards, and purposefully get in the way, while assuming everybody is watching for them. They ride in the middle of traffic lanes, never signal when turning, don't respect traffic control devices, throw things at cars and just generally act like douchebags on the road. I call these people, "bike assholes". They need to be regulated and LEOs need to be able to give them tickets.

Yeah I know a guy that got points for blowing a Stop sign on his bike. Rare but it does happen.

This thread makes me sad. Obviously cyclists should obey the rules of the road. I am not defending bad cyclists - e.g. the ones the OP stated. The hatred is just sickening though. Disheartening. There are so many worse things to hate than a guy or gal riding a bike.

I could make decent money for the city for every time I see a car not stop for a red light when I am out on my bike rides.

um what the fuck!?

f you get a ticket riding your bike, you’re not supposed to get demerits on your Ontario driver’s licence – as long as the ticket says you were on your bicycle, says Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation.“Bicycle infractions are not applied to the driving record,” says MTO spokesman Bob Nichols in an email. “If the officer states on the ticket that a bicycle was used, the convicting court does not send the information to the Ministry of Transportation.”
i mean even the MTO says that's not possible.

i meant this.

Not coming to a complete stop at a stop violates section 136.1 of the Highway Traffic Act. While you’d still get the fine, the conviction wouldn’t appear on your Ontario driving abstract, which insurers look at when determining your premiums.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/glob...it-affect-my-drivers-licence/article19191769/

imagine that police don't know how laws work.

yep retarded cops.

But not all traffic cops and prosecutors know that cyclists don’t get demerits, says a cycling advocacy group.
“We've heard from members who’ve had demerits on their licences for cycling offences, even though it’s not supposed to happen,” says Jared Kolb, executive director with Cycle Toronto. “There needs to be a major education campaign.”
Windsor Police initially told us that cyclists do get demerits. But spokesman Sgt. Matt D’Asti took a closer look at the HTA and confirmed demerits don’t apply to cyclists.

I once sat at a t-intersection with stop signs on all three sides. There was constant traffic with no breaks. It took 15 minutes of watching before I saw a car actually stop instead of roll through.

Car drivers hate following the law and almost never do. They sure love complaining about others though.

They already pay taxes to fund road construction. Do you really think your vehicle licensing and gas taxes are solely responsible for paying for the roads?

I pay fees and taxes that support railways and airstrips but I don't get to ride my bike on them. They're not for bikes, same as roads for automobiles.

If bicyclists want to ride on the roadway, they should be taxed heavily to pay for dedicated (and separate) bike lanes.

As long as that means I stop subsidizing car drivers with my taxes, that'd be great. Not only would it shut you idiots up, but you'd pay more and I'd pay less than the current arrangement. Win-win!

Bicycle use should be restricted to city limits unless the bike is licensed. Any fees collected in licensing or ticketing are to be directed towards building proper bike lanes on county roads and highways.

The reason you notice bad behaviour by cyclists is because they are an outgroup, and drivers generally have trained themselves to not even see their own group's habitual ignoring of the rules.

Now this is 100% bullshit. Have you ever seen any thread here about driving!? People bitch about other drivers all the time, and I'm most definitely included in that group. :colbert:

do you also get butthurt when a car blows a stop sign

If no one is at the intersection, I'm not worried about someone performing a rolling stop. However, if someone is there, then you should stop. It doesn't matter if you're a cyclist or a motorist, it's a problem.

turns right when there's a no turn on red?

Yes. Just ask me how flabbergasted I am when I see people make a left on red. :p (I probably see it at least once a month around here.)

How about jaywalkers?

Depends on the situation. I don't normally care unless they're really slow.

Or cars driving at night without their lights on?

They're fucking morons. It's about as bad as those that drive without their lights on with their wipers on, which is illegal in my state.

I've done enough traffic enforcement to tell you that (where I was) the percentage of cyclists that cruise through stop signs far exceeds the percentage of cars that do the same.

To be fair, I understand why they do it (conservation of momentum is a bigger deal on a man-powered vehicle), but that doesn't make it alright.

I feel I have become an even better driver now that I cycle, it makes me more aware of others when I am driving.

Same

About to bike commute home from work, based on how bad traffic is right now, following all the traffic rules, I'll be home twice as fast than if I drove. :)

I will celebrate this fine thread by gleefully popping a wheelie while rolling through numerous stop signs on my bicycle as I make the short commute home this evening. :)

what is it about bikes that turns ATOT into raging morons?

jerks are jerks, whether they ride bikes or drive cars. there are plenty of both.

i have always found the constant talk here about killing bike riders to be mildly disturbing, and think it would likely result in infractions if people were referring to almost any other group (ie celebrating the death of garbage collectors or postal delivery people)

Just watch out for em and try not to hit em. Super annoying when there are s**tloads of them though. But not something to really dwell on.

Ironically, this is almost the exact train of thought I had when I commuted by bike. A whopping 1.5 mile commute one way (with a commute that long, you have all KINDS of time to see bad drivers... /sarcasm).

It's also the same train of thought I use while driving... Hmm.
