This is why I want to pump my own gas...

I live in NJ, where it's illegal to pump your own gas (unless you live on the military base, where you do it yourself). I pulled up to a BP, my gas tank was down to a quarter left.

Me: "May you please fill it up regular?"

Gentleman: "Sure"

Me: "Thank you" (I'm a very polite person at everything)

The tank finishes at around $18.50 something. The guy's older coworker comes to my car and wants to even out the price. Usually, when they go just a tad over, say up to about $.10 because it happens, they just take that dollar amount and pretend it didn't happen. Instead, he stopped at $19.03, paused, then proceeded to go up to a whole $20. Would've been ok to stop at certain increments ($.25 or $.50) but just kept on going.

A weak rant I know, but a dollar gives me a 20 oz. drink if I ever feel thirsty.

You mean there's another ass backwards state besides Oregon that made it a law that you can't pump your own gas?

WTF is the rationale behind this?

move to a different state. that sucks. Its way better to have fun with the numbers, like 18.18 or 19.19 than it is to round off to the nearest dollar. Its cheaper too!

I drove up to Oregon and it's the same there, no self-serving. God bless California! But damn the taxes attached to gas! :|

I feel a lot of kids my age needs more discipline. They tend to curse in front of everybody and have the immaturity of little kids and think the universe revolves around them. I'm glad I was raised by my mom. As I said, I'm a VERY polite person, and it's sad that when I am, people get surprised by it rather than that's how they're usually treated.

Hey I just went for some pop tarts, but Im back now!

So there are more than 1 sissy state? I thought Oregon's the only state where you can't pump your own gas.

i live in nj.

have you seen the morons over here? we'd have incompetent people pumping gas, spilling it all over their fat, with a burger in one hand and a lit cigar and the pump in the other hand.

I'm not understanding why this is a big deal. You are obviously able to use the extra gas that was put into your tank, and it's not like he overcharged you. If anything, it is a good thing becuase you don't have to go back to the gas station sooner than you would have otherwise. 🙂

For some reason I picture those guido guys. 😕

wow that has to be one of the dumbest laws ever...are u like supposed to tip them too? and how much extra does that make your gas?

Yes, and 80% of the people who do it are women.
