Listed a phone for sale since I got a new one. The listing is here.

The winner e-mails me within minutes of the auction ending:

"You said in the product description that the phone
is black. But looking at the photos it is white. I
don't want to buy a white one. sorry."

The listing CLEARLY says white in the title, has 4 pictures, all showing a white phone, and says white in the description. The only place where it says black is the automatic information eBay pulls from the internet. WTF. I realize he's probably just saying that to have an excuse, but seriously, WTF?

On top of that, even if the guy DID want the phone, I clearly stated in the listing I would ship to the USA only. This douchebag is from Ireland. I hate the internet.

I put 50% of fault on you.

It DOES say Color: Black though. And maybe the search filter uses that.

You already said in your listing no shipping outside of the USA .. so you are not obligated to accept his bid.

I think you can get the fees refunded. Or just offer the item to the next highest bidder instead of relisting.

Yes, he should of double checked the item details. But his listing is also fairly clear about both the color and also not wanting to ship outside the United States.

Here is his personal item specifics:

Up for sale today is a white UNLOCKED HTC Hero. I purchased this in August while overseas, and have used it for the past few months. Unfortunately, my work is forcing me to switch back to my Blackberry, so this is no longer needed. The phone itself is in good condition, with normal wear and tear. There are very light hairline scratches that are very hard to see on the top of the phone. The bottom of the phone also has a few scratches near the USB port. Lastly, there is a small (1mm) scratch on the top-right of the screen, but it is 100% unnoticeable in day-to-day operation. This phone looks as if it has been very lightly used - I would rate it an 8.5 out of 10.
The phone has been rooted, and custom ROM's can be loaded, in order to enhance performance. The phone will be wiped before shipping.
I ship via UPS Ground and accept PayPal ONLY. I ONLY ship to the USA, please do not ask for other locations, the answer is no.
Thanks for looking!

You can restrict sales to US only you know; like an actual restriction to block intl buyers from bidding

Yeah, I always add those restrictions as well, because you can't trust idiots not to bid on your item, even when you clearly state that you only ship within the US. And even then I'll still get emails from people asking if I can ship internationally. Hmm, well let's see it says no in the description and I blocked you from bidding at all, so what do you think?

edit: It's not really seller error, the buyer is supposed to read the description and understand the shipping charges, conditions, etc. before bidding. Unfortunately some people have difficulties with something as simple as reading, so eBay added the buyer requirements to avoid issues like this.

Actually, its not clear about the color. It states in white in some places, and black in some places. That is conflicting, and the seller doesn't get to choose which information the buyer is "required", expected, or will see.

I habitually skim past the subjective bullshit descriptions like "I got this as a gift from my sweetest sweety-pie exactly 113 days ago. Well then we broke up and I don't want it anymore because using it reminds me of the pain of a love lost. But my loss will be your gain! Today, I am offering-up this super spectacular dandy item...blah blah blah blah"

I drill down to the OBJECTIVE ITEM DETAILS, DESCRIPTION, OR SPECS, which should be the ONLY description allowed or used (Ebay should enforce such a policy). And the objective item specs/details say "black".

That's how I scan E-bay listings as well, OP should have changed this to avoid any confusion...

This is a very racist phone thread. Who cares what color the phone is. We should love all phones regardless of their color.

thats so typical, the irish are so low class. he's only a douche because ireland is a country of douchebags. next time put "irish need not bid" in your desc.
