Submitted this in January. Got a message in February that "My check was ready to be mailed!".

No check. It's almost May.

Go to the rebatehq and find this message when pulling up my tracking number:

Status Detail: Please be advised: Parago, Inc. is a provider of rebate processing services for its clients. I don't have the energy at the moment to sit on hold for 4 hours before I get to talk to some underpaid CSR with absolutely no power in the situation and basically telling me in no short words that I'm screwed.

Is it legal? Am I legally entitled to a MIR if I followed all of their directions and my request was "approved"?

So I'd spend how much in PTO and legals fees for $100?

I'd be better off rallying the troops in the Hot Deals sites that have been snubbed and trying to get a class action deal out of it.

i haven't used a MIR in years due to this crap. it's just not worth the deal. any sales that have "after MIR" in fine print I just skip.

This is why I completely ignore rebates as "deals"

They are nothing but a scam and should be banned.

Small claims fees are usually limited to the processing fee (maybe $20 or so). There aren't any major "legal fees" to speak of.

Whenever I go to a store and they mention MIR I always tell them to move on to recommending me something else because I refuse to do that.

It was a 19" LCD that was $200 up front and had a $100 rebate. So for $100 19" LCD it was worth the "risk".
