Is why I don't buy into that stuff. Pennywort increases concentration, brain power and energy, and is also a sedative? Right...
Nutmeg helps wtih nuasea...I know for a fact that isn't true. (don't follow the recipe for nutmeg tea btw. They don't mention it on the site, but too much and you will take a trip, a bit more and you will die of liver failure.)
Who can tell if any of these uses are genuine if they keep making stuff up like this?

People who are too hard into herbal remedies are morons. Afterall modern day medicine was preceeded by it. There is a reason why we now have drugs and operations.

I know a "girl" (ugly bitch is the word I really want to use) who said when she has kids (yeah right -she's too anorexic to get pregnant) is going to give them chicken noodle soup and Vitamin C when they get sick instead of medicines. That's going to go a long way in curing a major infection isn't it?

Sometimes it's pretty stupid, But don't blow off all "herbal remedies". I mean, think about it.

We have to get all of our drugs from somewhere. And it's usually the plant and animal kingdom.

I would rather make some herbal tea than go get some refined chemicals in a bottle, if I had the choice.

What medicines do we have for the common cold? None? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Let me rephrase that. All of our western medicine is symptomatic in nature. When you have a fever, and take some tylenol.. you're not treating the cause of the fever, you're treating the symptoms. The tylenol isn't doing anything to kill the infection causing the fever.

Of course, the herbal medicines are purely symptomatic, also. However, there is the peace of mind that comes with using something that is obviously natural, instead of some processed pills that come in a bottle.

You can't just blow them off as sillyness. They're where we got all of our current drugs and medicines. Besides, there are going to be other substances in the plant matter that are beneficial to your health, regardless of why you're taking them. You won't find that in a pill. :)

Hehehe... Well.. :p We were talking about the common cold, and there is no cure for the common cold.. It's not worth taking antibiotics for. I wasn't disagreeing that your little friend may be a loon, I was just trying to point out that herbs certainly aren't worthless. :) It's not the herbs fault that people make outrageous or misleading claims. :(

I don't know her anymore. She married my friend and now they both lead sh*tty lives and I hope they die.

:D:D:D:D

And yes she thought hair was alive. And yes she was in second year university at the time she made that out rageous claim and went so far as to back it up with buying myself and her BF meals if we could prove otherwise.

of course, there are some herbal remedies that are worth a look, but skoorb was just talking about people who "are too hard into" herbal remedies. you know, those nutjobs that buy stuff just because they're "all natural". in advertising, "all natural" has become synonymous with "good". this is not the case. there are plenty of natural things that can kill you in horrible ways. "all natural" should be a warning sign that they don't know exactly what is in it. i don't understand people who buy the herbal remedy when an equivalent pharm drug is available.

maybe he was talking about me . . .

:D

Herbs used to be mainstream medicines and now they are considered "alternative". But guess what, about 1/3 of our modern medicines have some relation to herbs.

The infection fighting properties of Echinicea and Goldenseal are documented. Foxglove became a heart remedy. White willow bark inspired a synthesis into aspirin. Ginger is used to combat motion sickness.
