This is what made the 80's awesome!

Well I have, I know members of several bands.

In my childhood, sure recording off the radio was fine.

Those tapes died eventually.

HBO intro is still one of the best out there and it came from the 80s.

Oh yeah and kids actually go outside to play.

^^Agree with both, but sound wise, THX, hands down, is the Master of Ceremonies.

Excellent intro...fond memories.

I had to be somewhere between 5-8 years old last time I saw that, but I still remember it.

So you guys remember the HBO intro? How many remember their April Fools version of the intro?

There was another version where announcer guy said:
B

This movie has been rated "B" for boring. No sex. No violence. Why bother?

😀

I grew up in the 70's and 80's, I am smart. I rarely need google for OT posts, because I have lived most of it.

Have to agree with alky here, but respect to you youngsters who admire the 80s!

I think those who are now bashing the 80s in this thread are viewing the decade with their current political bias (coughcough..dank...coughcough) rather than remembering what it was like. I lived through the 70s, 80s, and 90s and the 80s was the best by a long shot.

But not smart enough to know that apostrophes never pluralize? Google it. You use the apostrophe to indicate possession or what was left off. '70s and '80s refer to the years making up the decades beginning in 1970 and 1980. You see it wrong in official stuff all the time but "Smart" people still know this. 😉

It's possible to say that something belongs to the decade, but that almost never excuses it.

Because I really care on an internet post. I was probably 18 beers in at that point.

Fight the good fight. You probably have a grammar tool installed.

Many 'smart' people don't even spell everything correctly, however; keep patting yourself on the back, champ.

No, the 80's had plenty of crap. It's easy to remember the good times. One example is paying $400 for a 19" TV without a remote control is utter crap imo. Today we have such a plethora of information and options that weren't even dreamed of in the 80's. Like having to rely on video game magazines for information...ugh.

Nothing more than Google Chrome underlining words it doesn't recognize and the fat-finger auto-correct for on-screen keyboards. I only care when I see someone talk up their intelligence or talk down someone else's in the same breath which you did. Yes, I lumped you with the "OMG! Your so stupid!" crowd.

You do realize it's because most people here are posting in a stream of consciousness form and are not actively proofing.

Most of them can look at their posts and realize they did a Your, instead of You're or a to instead of too, etc.

But hey if this gets you through your day without kicking a dog or something worse, go for it man.

Then it's best to purge the urge to put an apostrophe before an s without reason or else it perpetuates it. The next generation will see it all over and think it is correct, which is why you see 70's, 80's, 90's, etc in official titles, posters, print, compilations, etc. Nip it in the bud.

When most people use 70's and 80's, I am siding with them rather than the grammar nazis that don't get out much.

Oh look, your fellow nerds even state it was acceptable:
Rule 6. There are various approaches to plurals for initials, capital letters, and numbers used as nouns.

Examples:
She consulted with three M.D.s.
She consulted with three M.D.'s.
Some write M.D.'s to give the s separation from the second period.

Many writers and editors prefer an apostrophe after single capital letters only:

Examples:
I made straight A's.
He learned his ABCs.

There are different schools of thought about years and decades. The following examples are all in widespread use:

Examples:
the 1990s
the 1990's
the '90s
the 90's

Awkward: the '90's

Wow, you have a brand new family and you spend your Thanksgiving on Anandtech, boozing it up? Great work, dad.

Umm, bro? the kids were at their grandparents for Thanksgiving and saw a couple movies.

We didn't even get out of bed until after 2pm and then cooked a 22lb Turkey that night (until about 10pm ish) and prepared some things for another Turkey feast the next day at home.

Why don't you worry about your own family and how they don't seem to want you around?
