This is what happens when you laptop's fan dies

I have an IBM ThinkPad with a celery 466.
I was playing a 3d game, and all of a sudden the laptop powered down.

I restarted, and everything seemed very slow. I shut it down and started it up again 10 mins later. The game froze again. And this happened a few times. I looked at the back of the case and noticed that the fan was kind of hanging on the side there. It must've fallen out when I was transporting the computer.

Anyway, I opened it, put the fan back, and everything worked fine again.
So don't be afraid that your fan in a laptop will die - there will be no smoke or fire.

End of story =)

Scootin159,

I don't know if it was the Intel's overheat protection, or simply the CPU overheating so fast that they system crashed to the "power off" state =)
