"President Bush?s chief economist, Gregory Mankiw, struck a political nerve earlier this week when he described the loss of U.S. jobs to overseas companies as ?just a new way of doing international trade.?

The problem is... theres like nothing left of the manufacturing industry in the United States, Bush isn't doing anything about it but encouraging it. When theres no one manufacuring anything , theres no exports. Basic Economics 101.

US manufacturing output is double what it was in 1980. It just requires a few million less people to do that production. Maybe the president should fire all robots.

That's where you are so seriously fooled.
Do you honestly believe the Manufacturing was done here in the U.S.?
This is where it is wrong that these Companies still claim to be "American" Companies.
They keep an American Headquarters with a skeletal crew and all of the manufacturing is done overseas and then they ship the stuff here and put in these "Reports" of how they have doubled Production and YOU believe it.
How gullable.

That's an interesting situation where it is a Foriegn Company set up shop in the U.S. employing Americans.
What are the Tax benefits to thee Companies?
AT Experts, please chime in.
Interestingly enough, the Japanese having their factories in the US is actually cheaper than having them in Japan. The per capita GDP in japan is almost what it is here in the US but I believe they have a somewhat lower percent of their population working so it's a wash. I was reading a book from the 80's that said that the point when it manufacturing a car in Japan and then exporting to the US has the same cost as manufacturing in the US is when the exchange rate is below ~160 yen/dollar. Currently it's a 105yen/$ (but Japan has had a decade of deflation while we've had steadt inflation so bear that in mind.)does that include the japanese owned manufacturing plants located here in the US?
