- "get off the road, asshole!"
- "use the sidewalk, asshole!"
- (for those of you who don't know, riding a road bike on the sidewalk is illegal in most places)
- drivers texting and not paying attention
- being run off the side off the road and injured
- no safety or protective airbags whatsoever only feet away on both sides from getting seriously hurt or killed

don't be a shitbag. share the road. you're in a goddamn car... i wonder who will get to their destination WAY sooner... fucking assholes.

i hate it when "cyclists" ride 2 or more across on the road and don't move over when there is traffic coming from behind and there is no room to go around them. talk about assholes.

if that happens, just hop the double yellow and pass them. they'll get the idea. it's pretty rare that that happens, because cyclists also drive and they get it.

1. illegal.
2. i see it all the time around here.
3. most cyclists, at least in my area, are arrogant pricks who think they are better than everyone else.

1. not if you're passing a bike, something without a motor, or a parked vehicle.
2. "around here" must suck
3. that's because they probably are... they actually get exercise.

Ding ding ding.

Dude, feel free to yell at assholes taken an entire lane on a 2 lane road.

I occasionally yell at speeders on a stretch of road I ride my bike to work on ;)

just checked my state's rules of the road and it made no mention of crossing the double-yellow line for bicycles or any other reasons besides road construction. therefore, it is illegal.

no, therefore it's not illegal. if a mail truck is in front of you and moving house to house with an entire line of traffic behind you, you're not going to follow him house to house because there's a double solid. the same goes for a horse and buggy. the same goes for if it's a pedestrian.

no one's going to pull you over for passing a parked vehicle or slow bike. they will, however, if you're passing another car, because you'll be in the other lane for way longer just trying to pass it.

Since taking up mountain biking a few years ago I've became more tolerant of road cyclist. I feel much safer out in the wood dodging trees, rocks, and mud than on the road dodging cars.

And there is that arrogance!

Must be nice to be so clearly superior.

Wrong. It's illegal. People do it (given the examples you mention) and you probably wouldn't get a ticket for it... but it IS illegal.

Speaking of illegal... my only problem with cyclists is how they get all high-n-mighty about 'sharing the road'... which in my mind means using the road as an equivalent to a motor vehicle... and then they don't obey the traffic laws... like running stop signs and stop lights.

Despite all the people on the internet claiming otherwise, I have never met a decent cycler in real life. They are always entitled pricks and I don't even drive or own a car.

Too many of them seem to get a thrill out of hogging a lane, riding slow and blocking dozens of cars behind them. A red light means to slow down slightly and crossing pedestrians means go extra fast and try to navigate through them as close as possible.

Sucks as a pedestrian too. Never know if the cyclist is gonna run you over or not.

On a nice day after it rained the previous day, I like to take a drive and knock cyclists over by splashing the big puddles. It's funny because their feet usually never can come off the pedals fast enough.

lol

Was thinking about switching to a bike this summer for the days where I don't pickup/dropoff my son at daycare. But then there's getting to the gym, and carrying stuff. It always sounds like a good idea in my head...

They constantly run stop signs around here. I can't even tell you the last time I saw one stop.

I support bikers rights, and I share the road with them, but one thing I'd like you bikers to explain to me. There are two routes i can take to-from work, both are 4 lane divided roads with a very wide median in the middle, but also cross traffic and stop lights, so the speed limit is 50 mph. Also, next to these roads, for their entire 10-20 mile length, is a bike path. Not a walking path, but a bike path, it's 20 feet away from the road, there's usually nobody walking on it, it's completely safe, just as fast as the road, and STILL bikers DEMAND that they ride on the road. Why the fuck would you do this? Don't give me that stupid, "Because I have a right to!" bullshit, because it's just plain retarded, why you would put yourself at higher risk when you can do the EXACT SAME THING with MUCH LESS RISK just 20 feet away.

Oh and second thread of the day with a perfectly apt Portlandia clip.

drivers have to deal with cyclists running stop signs
cyclists have to deal with drivers running them over and then driving off

clearly, cyclists are entitled douchebags.

The last thing Paul remembers that day is being put on a stretcher before he woke up in a hospital bed six days later. He suffered spinal and pelvic fractures. His pelvic bone, broken in half and pushed upwards into his bladder had severed blood vessels causing him to bleed internally. When he was first admitted to the hospital he was hypotensive, which means his organs were shutting down with the lack of blood and his body was going into shock. Paul underwent three abdominal surgeries within the first two days just to stop the bleeding. On the fourth day, the doctors were able to fix his pelvis and then he went through spine surgery only to have pelvic surgery once again to get it back to its original position. Paul also suffered from post-operative infection from the abdominal surgeries. Finally, with his fever gone, he was healthy enough to have his spinal fusion – as a result, Paul is a bit shorter now.

I ask him about the person who hit him, self-identified as Victoria Chin. He tells me that during the time of his recuperation, he had been in touch with the Beverly Hills Police Department to find out what was going on with the woman who hit him and then ran. Apparently, they were dropping the ball on his case as they never even processed her car for evidence. And her explanation for not stopping, as given to the BHPD, “There was no place to park.”

The technical loophole that Victoria Chin falls into is that no one could properly identify her even though the day after the collision she called the BHPD herself. The police officer she spoke to said she had to come in to the police station to turn herself in. She then called back saying she would be in tomorrow. The police officer reminded her to bring her car in for processing. The next day, Chin showed up without her car and with a lawyer. She only admitted to being Victoria Chin refusing to say anything else. Her lawyer asked the police officer if they were going to book his client. BHPD said no. So, the lawyer asked if they were going to arrest his client. BHPD said no.

They let Victoria Chin go. No arrest. No charges.

A little over 2 years ago, myself, Alex Thompson, Sara Bond and a group of cyclists had staged a “Blood In Press Conference” to protest the less than slap on the wrist nature of verdict handed down in the Louis “Birdman” Deliz trial. This was a highly watched case in which 19 year old Celine Mahdavi nearly killed Deliz with a left hook before fleeing the scene in her black SUV. Deliz was left severely maimed and bleeding in the street unable to move. Mahdavi was caught blocks later, drunk and with huge damage to her car’s side panel. At the sentencing in Beverly Hills Superior court, Judge Elden Fox gave Mahdavi no jail time and 90 days community service.

The reality is everyone turns into a jerk once in a while when driving or riding. Some more often than others. Someone on the road at any given time is always in a hurry, refuse to signal, refuse to yield, refuse to turn down that rattle can trunk when at a light, refuse to slow down in a construction zone..etc.

Of course here, everyone is a perfect driver and rider and never does any of those things

The solution to this convoluted issue is clear. The strongest of the two wins by default. Don't bring a water gun to a gun fight. :)
