Just got my brand new WD 120gb SE drive that I bought off of a guy who got it from dell. The drive was still sealed, I plug er up. I have seen doornails with more life in them. I am getting nothing from this drive. Luckily it seems to have some warranty on it. Gah. Just hope it is here in time for the lan next weekend.

nm, although when i ran the serial number the seller gave me when I bought the drive by WD it showed a 3 year warranty, It no longer does. Have to go put my machine back together and dig up that SN to see if the are the same. Gah I hate bad hard drives

Have you tried another power connector?

Maybe the power connector you used was bad?

Hmm.. WD never asks for proof more than the date on the label of that harddrive. If you're within 3 years, they should replace it, no questions asked. I did it after a drive died 2.75 years into its life and they replaced it no problem.

*gets worried*

i bought my WD 120 after reading several posts here on AT and still have it sealed up on my desk in front of me. Maybe i should open it and verify it works.

If it came from dell and was classified as OEM, I doubt Western Digital would replace it... no wonder the guy wanted to get rid of it...

And you should be guarrenteed to have a warranty, because the 120gig WD models aren't even 6 months old...

Yes I tried various power and ide cables, I removed all of my ide devices and just had the WD plugged in. No go. Then I would plug in one of my Ibm drives and it would work fine.

The drive is oem from dell and there seems to be no WD warranty.
