This is stupid. **UPDATED**

Last week a new Mercedes hit my Volvo with my wife in it. She was sitting at a light and the Merc lost control and slid into the front of the Volvo. Semi-serious damage to the Merc, virtually none to the brick. The Volvo had been in a previous accident and I never fixed anything other than a new bumper and replacing the plastic grill and such. The only "new" damage was a slight bend to a piece that was already messed up.

The guy's insurance company is insisting we go to their adjuster. I told them there was previous damage and nothing was done to bother with after this accident, but they're insisting.

So now I have to be at this place at 8am. Stupid. Waste of my time and theirs. We're being cool about the accident... Wife wasn't hurt, no new damage to the Volvo, so why not just drop it? Noooo, they have to do all this stuff. I know they're trying to make sure there's no chance of us coming back later and suing for damage, but we said we'd sign releases.

Bleh. I don't wanna go. Can you tell? lol

BTW: This stuff is why we won't give up the Volvo, even though it's falling apart. She's been in one really serious accident and now this minor accident, and the Volvo survived both times with just superficial damage. It truly is a brick. A 1984 244GL. I think I need to start looking for another 240 to replace this one with soon... heh

UPDATE
Just got back from the adjuster. He was super nice, probably because I didn't give him a hassle. I just told him how silly this was because there was no damage. He cut me a check for $200.

Sounds to me like you guys have been very decent about all this. If it were me I would just go and let them cut me a check for a couple hundred since they seem so intent on it.

I plan to. The insurance probably has to give us something to help bind us to anything we sign, I suppose.

I guess they're just covering their a$$. But it's really annoying.

Yeah,
that's what 98% of the population would do! Milk the others insurance for all they could.
I'm sure they were expecting just that, plus, as you mentioned, covering their butts.

Take the time to go to their adjuster and meet with them, let them pay you something, and sign their release. I'm sure you'll get enough to make up for your time + some.

Duh!!!!!
