alright... i've had a canon a40 since november and it has been working wonderfully. the original 8mb cf card that came with it works great... but it was just a bit lacking in capacity. so when i was in hk, i bought a 64mb cf card (which i have either lost or sold since) manufactured by a company called PQI. that card also works great. after i came back from HK, i got a 128mb sandisk cf card from best buy. i have never had a problem with any of these three cf cards.
now... yesterday, after snooping around in the hot deals forum, i went to target to pick up some digital cameras that were on clearance. i picked up a nikon coolpix 2500 and a minolta dimage s404 for pretty cheap. both these cameras only came with batteries and a 16mb lexar cf card. now... i tested them and they appear to work fine in the camera. when i got home, i went to transfer my test pix to my pc via my usb card reader, but it appears it will not read. when i put my sandisk cf card in the reader, a solid green light comes on telling me that it is reading ok. when i put the lexar from either the 2500 or s404 in... the green light just flashes a little and remains off. when i go to windows explorer to see if the card can be read, it tells me there is no media inserted.
at first, i thought maybe it could be a problem with the camera. so i put my trusty sandisk cf card into the s404 and took a snapshot of my room. then i stuck the sandisk in my usb reader, and everything is fine. this looks like a problem with the lexar cf cards. my question is... is this a common problem where certain brand media will not work well with usb readers? by the way, the usb reader i have is manufactured by a company called "finland" (who? hehe... i got it from hk). anyone care to comment on this?
