I don't mind most docs, myself. Dentists and Oral Surgeons seem to have a lot of variability, and must come HIGHLY recommended for me to consider seeing one.

Eye doctors, on the other hand, seem to be the worst. For years, I've had Eye Doctors telling me that I was near-sighted. So I go in to see about getting LASIK, and the doc says, "alright, since you're far-sighted, we have to be more careful, since LASIK is not FDA approved to treat..." and I simply stare at him mouth agape. Turns out that far-sighted people can strain their lens muscles to compensate. By getting treated for near-sightedness, all my past doctors had been making my eyes worse. Now I'll have to wear reading glasses by the time I'm 35, the muscles are just wore out. The kicker: all any doctor had to do was dilate my pupils and administer the test, and it would have been plainly obvious.

I think that people to want to be called "Dr. XXXX" but have no medical acumen all become eye doctors for the easy hours and limited scope. Quacks are a dime-a-dozen, good docs are few and far between (took me ten years of recommendations to find my last doc).

Sorry 'bout your dad, Goose, that's a crappy position to be put in....

Yeah, i have a strong distrust of doctors in general. They dont really know anything more than a normal person. All they have is years of reading books and doing the actual operations. When it comes to knowledge, I can go onto Google, and know just as much as they do. Its all trial and error when it comes down to medicine.

I went into the university's clinic to get checked out - they say I have pulled both my hamstrains in my sleep. I say thats bull, and check myself into the emergency room. 5 days later after numerous tests, I have a rare rhematoidal condition.

I look up the condition in google, lo and behold, all the symptoms match up. All the questions that the website said I should ask myself where verbatim to what the doctors asked me. I feel bad for the doctors that have to go through so many years of hell, just to be matched by an instant google search.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Is your dad asian ? They (we) are more likely to be passive in situations where we're belittled (by the doc in your case)... especially the older generation. Sometimes feel bad for them.

🙁🙁🙁

I feel for you, and for your step-Dad, Goosemaster.

Now's not the time to go into all the relevant reasons, but don't attempt to sue, move on.

and sue.

A malpractice suit can get your dad some good money. This is a suit that is actually not your dad's fault because he went to a professional who gave him bad advice and downplayed the significance. I hope your dad gets his sight back. 🙁
