I just received a new IBM hard drive from newegg. I set everything up correctly and it is recognized by the motherboard. Then I tried to install win2k but it said that i had to run the format procedure which i did. But it froze at 50%. So i tried ctrl+alt+delete but to no avail. So i shut my computer off with the power button while it was still "thinking". I tried rebooting but the hard drive is not recognized. It doesnt say "none" but it says "..." during bootup. Then a message appears that says Primary Master Hard disk failed. The hard drive runs and spins when i turn the power on but whats wrong?? Is the hard disk damaged ?? 🙁

Thanks 🙁

yea i have taken out the CMOS battery for few seconds and placed it back. I think that should've reset the CMOS

<< are the IBM hard drives that weak??? >>

Because Your harddrive failed at the 1st try to install win it might have been a bad drive from the factory.

Download a HDD utility from IBM and zero the HDD (almost like a low level format). After zero'ing try again and see if it will be detected by the bios. Also try using a boot disk and on the dos prompt type FDisk/MBR to recreate the main boot sector. If it cannot be detected still then RMA!😎
