I have several cats that live on the porch. This morning I noticed some drops of blood around the porch. I figured that one of the cats caught a mouse and got bit, or broke a toenail, or something stupid like that. But then I found out that one of the cats has what appears to be part of his rectum swelled up and sticking through his anus. It's kind of bloody, but it's not actively bleeding anymore. The thing is that he doesn't seem to care. He licks it once in a while, and pretty much goes about his business as usual. He's an old cat, and a stray to boot, so I don't think I'm going to take him to the vet, I'll just let what happens happen. Before I get flamed too bad, the deal is that I take in any strays who happen to wonder in. People all around know that if they have a cat that they can't keep, they can bring it to us. They all get vaccinated and most of them get neutered, and I feed them really well. We give them any first aid we can. Over the years we've housed hundreds of them. If I took every one to the vet when they get sick I wouldn't be able to afford to feed them or me anymore. Think of me as a cat homeless shelter. I can't afford to be a free clinic too.

Think there's a chance he'll heal up?

By the way, don't ask for pics, I'm not taking pictures of my cat's ass.

Something similar to that happened to my friend's cat.... when it got hit by a car.

What if it's some kind of contagious disease? You going to let it sit there bleeding around all your other cats?

The humane thing to do would be take it to the vet. I don't think it's contagious, but the poor cat could be suffering.

That sounds pretty bad, I doubt it's going to get better on it's own.......

They would probably have to put it back in themselves and stitch things up a bit....

COULD be suffering? The poor animal's ass is inside-out - of course it's suffering!

Please take it to a vet, or the SPCA.

Yeah.....if it's old, maybe it's best if you just put it down, i mean for its sake.......if it's in pain, though as you said it doesn't seem to care all that much

I think it's called a prolapsed rectum. It happened to one of our sheep once. You should take it to the vet.

Or at least stick your finger in it and see if it's ass goes back inside.
