Our clinic has free DSL that provide by AML....let me try to explain.
They give us a free PC but they use NT4.0 to lock the program. So that particular PC will only showing the homepage of their website. Can't even change anything.
Technician however install the static ip dsl to this computer, but he also install the router (which doesn't really need it)
I ask him if our other pc can utilize the DSL bandwidth?
He kind of laugh and say..."there is a router...." and "anything can be done, but I can't do that for you though".

this puzzle me, it is NOT we going to use the connection illeagally, because that ip was assign to our office anyway....
my question is...Can our win2000 office pc able to use internet connection?
How? I don't even know the IP, but the router is there for us to use it.

Well, if the router has DHCP enabled, and I assume this is a DSL modem + router or dsl modem to a seperate router, you can just plug the other PC into the router and it should just work...

However, since your other PC has a static IP assigned to it, I assume that this is not the case. So, in other words, is your PC assigned the static IP that was given to you by the ISP or another IP that is routed from the router... (i.e. 64.34.32.123 the static ip.... router routes it to... 192.168.1.25 for example) I just made those numbers up, but if that is how it is working, then you can just assign another ip to the other computer on the same subnet 192.168.1.26 for example.

But, if your PC is assigned the ONLy static ip given to you and it is just sitting open on the internet, not behind NAT on the router, etc, then you either need to turn that on, have the router route, or not get DSL on the other computer.

If I'm not understanding correctly, elaborate. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this as well.

okay...as you can see I am not good at network, actually not at technology.

This is what happen:

phone line connect to DSL modem -> Router -> Free PC.
IP unknow.
Free PC using internal flashmemory to operat NT4 (unable to change any setting)

now..."my" pc w/ win2000 (NO internal ip of any kind set) like to use this bandwith...how do I do this?

Best case: Plug it into the router and see if it works.

If not: see if you can type this into a command prompt: ipconfig /all and see if you can get your IP address from that and we'll go from there.

I gather you are running NT on the machine they set up, hopefully you'll still be able to use the ipconfig /all as you say everything is locked.
