This is probably the most original heavy metal band ever!

I am talking about Apocalyptica of course! No so much their first 2 albums (metallica covers) but their 3rd one: Cult.

This album is simply awesome: very musical, very original and quite heavy.

They have a new album out called "Reflections" and (judging from a song I managed to find on Kazaa) it looks like it'll be even better than Cult, unfortunately I am gonna have a hell of a time finding it, since amazon doesn't have it and I doubt any music stores will have it.


Anyway, if you guys like heavy metal and progressive music, you should definately check them out.

But I have a hard time considering cellos "heavy". They sound awesome though.

Perhaps not image-wise, but sound-wise they actually sound heavier than guitars.

Apocalyptica is so cool. I mean, what a great idea. Some of the songs seemed like a stretch for 4 cellos, but others were incredible.

I ran into these guys at a music store in Madrid about three months ago and was taken aback at how well the mix of classical and metal worked. Anyone who is even mildly intrigued by either genre should take a look at them.

Try Prologue (Apprehension). Its the first track on their newest album and probably the only track you'll be able to find on kazaa. It is the best way to introduce yourselves to them, as this song is what Apocalyptica are all about.
