ummm im assuming you mean a socket 775 as there is no 515, but no a 775 will not take a 478
 
I think you are referring to this Pentium 4 "515", which is a socket 775 CPU:

It will not fit in a socket 478 P4 board.

There are lots of socket 775 Intel CPUs, but not all of them work with all socket 775 motherboards--a new motherboard will generally run the older ones, but an old motherboard generally won't run the newest ones.

there is usually a way to find out what upgrade CPUs are compatible.
