Why does everyone say "bump" in response to a message.

It will make the thread go to the top so everyone can see it.

If someone wants thier message to be sent back to the top of a page, lets say, cause they dont want it to be lost in with the rest in the back pages, then someone, or the thread starter, will "bump" it back to the top of the list so ppl can read/ see it at the top.
