He shouldn't have opened it up repeatedly like that inside. That's just going to get them riled up, and possibly start shuffling eggs out of there.

Yuck. And I can't quite tell, but they might be black ants, too.
;)

I definitely want to see what a scan looks like (with the lid closed), and a video of what happens when he scans with the lid open.

Oh cool, seeing this right after finding a decent amount of ants upstairs pillaging our danish really makes me feel good. Awesome, cool, great.

That's pretty awesome looking. I'd probably chuck the thing, but I'd probably get memorized and watch for a good half hour first.

Similar thing happened to my electric shaver. It's pretty nuts how many ants can fit in something.

That's pretty cool. I'm not a fan of ants in the house, but they're pretty fun to watch.

I remember a documentary on ants on the Discovery or History (though that doesn't make sense) channel. Pretty fascinating really, especially the bastards that can break the skin, twigs, etc. with their jaws.

I wonder if those are the "Crazy Rasberry Ants" that have been such a problem in the past couple of years. Apparently they LOVE electronics.

No, those guys get their name from the fact that they are almost spastic in their movements. They are fast suckers, too. They'd have swarmed both the inside and outside of that printer in a couple of days... forget the month or so that the guy has been seeing the ants. His whole house would have been infested to the point of not being usable if they were in there a month.

Err how do you get swarms of ants in the house?

What are they eating?

I would surmise that the guy cleaned up the room before shooting that video.

Ants are hunter-gatherers. They don't necessarily live where their food source is.

@sdsviet: Nah. They'd probably get revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night.

But they do have limited distance they can hunt/gather, right?

I mean its not like they forage at the house next door.

I discovered a small infestation yesterday from the typical tiny ants at my front door. There's a crack on the floor that they're coming through and a good 6 feet away in the foyer is another small crack. They were marching from one end to the other I guess figuring out a transport route for whatever. Very fascinating to watch. I RAID'd one end and they would stop a few inches from the spray area and not know what to do. Some went kamikaze toward it anyway and started twitching. Kept me entertained for a half hour.

So I finally had enough and Raid'd the pathway and cleaned it all up. Of course this morning there was more of the same only this time their destination from the front door was to nowhere in particular. I just sprayed the crack again and covered it up with masking tape till I have a chance to get some bait. And that's my 6am in a nutshell.
