i put together another computer with some parts laying around. once i got it together, i partitioned and formatted it. i then start the win98 installation, it does its song and dance the its time for the first reboot. after the post where it detects the ide devices, it locks up. it detects all the devices, but it freezes after doing so. i pulled the hdd and put it in aother puter. some thing. so i take another hdd put it in the original puter with the f'ed up one as a slave. puter boots. i go into windows, i can see the f'ed up drive, so i format both partitions, make it master, and start over installing windows. after first reboot, BAM, lockup. just like before. what could be causing this?

the hdd worked fine a week ago.

specs:
celery 366@550 (yes, i tried at 366, same crap'ola)
BH6
64mb ram
WD 13gig hdd (the culprit)
diamond tnt1 agp
mosnter sound m80
dlink 530tx
48x cdrom

hdd has ata66 disabled, everyhing is plugged into the regular old ide ports. no pci controller cards.

any help appreciated!
