Just return a 3 month old Maxtor (40gig D740x) because of bad sector...
borrowed a hdd (6 month old Maxtor 10 gig) from a friend....it was bad sector free when i first use it...
but now...the same thing happened....it has bad sector in D: ....the same partition as it happen on my 40gig....
i'm running dual boot with 98se/win2k pro ....
WTH is this...? someone pls tell me how this can happen.... :|

Check your power cables. Is there any of the wires maybe touching your chassis? Sometimes this can kill harddrives like that.

Thats the only thing I can think of.

Check everything, cables, ram, I seen a system that was ROCK stable that started giving write errors & all around bad performance. i was BAD RAM , but bad cables will do it too,check everything.
