Meh, the guy is almost dead. I have nothing nice to say, so I don't bother saying anything about the whole subject :)

No, he hasn't.

you know, the scandal isn't over. it hasn't even started. the church is now shipping pedophile priests OVERSEAS (not just from dicese to diocese within a single country) in order to avoid prosecution. Mainly these priests are being shipped off to poor, third world nations. No nasty media there to expose them when they start raping little children again. :disgust:

A person has to earn the respect you speak of when they are on their deathbed. As Zim said, the Pope has done many great things and I appllaud him for that. He dropped the ball on other situations, very import things that have been ongoing inside the church for hundreds of years.

We don't live in the barbaric past, we live in modern times when we take care ALL people, including chidren.

He never did a thing to protect the children from his own employees.

I'm not a troll, nor is my maturity level sub-par shimsham, but just because a person is on his/her deathbed, doesn't not mean that they are allowed to escape criticism IMO :)

i agree. but there is a line between criticism and disrespect that many are oblivious to in just about all topics dealing with opinions. just comes with the territory, i guess.

while I am usually in favor of kicking people while they are down, I am going to have to agree with you. This man, regardless of his religion, has done nothing but to try to bring peace and goodwill to every corner of the Earth.

He has earned our respect. All of you flamebait assholes making these threads, what have you done to earn such respect? Nothing? OK then. Find something more worthwhile to post about.

rudeguy and I don't agree! :Q

Yes, the Pope has done many Noble things for people of this planet, but he has also not taken action in numerous scandals against children IMO. It's not the best comparison, but I view the Pope the same way I would view a CEO or General, he/she should take all responsibility for those under him, just my 2¢ :)

I thought the church did apoligize for that? I dont know for sure since I am not catholic and I really didnt follow the story much.

I really hate what those priests did. And if the pope did know about it, then he should have done something about it. But still, the guy is dying. Why should we talk bad about him now? I didnt see a thousand posts about him before. But now that he is dying he is fair game?

Thats just wrong. Grow some balls and pick on someone who can defend themselves.

The chuch did apologize and paid millions of dollars [ Ex. ] rudeguy, but the Pope never spoke out against what was done to these children IIRC. As for for last line about "growing some balls..." how do you think the poor children felt rudeguy? Again my 2¢, you're entitled to your interpretation as am I :)

How naive you are. You should do some research on the Vatican and how powerful and corrupted they are.

April 1st has passed, the man's about to die, give the jokes a rest, and show some respect already.

I am neither a religious or atheist person but I think making fun about someone who is very close to dead is not cool. What if someone is making fun of one of your close relatives while he/she is on deathbed?

On other note, I think the overexposure of the Pope condition and Terrey S. is a bit ridiculous. Just update us once or twice a day, heck even top of the hour, no need to do it every 5-10 minutes.

disrespect and criticism are 2 different things. being hateful isnt criticism, its just hate, and reflects more on the person saying it than who they target with it.

the man is almost dead, and will get his due, whatever that may be. what more does someone who hates the pope want? whats the point in spitting out hate, other than just being hateful?

Are you assuming I hate the Pope, or anyone else? If so you are mistaken.

I reserve the right to criticize and voice my opinion of any person. I have done so in this case.

In my opinion he deserves no more accolades than Hitler, Stalin or Mao. They all did great things for thier people, but in doing so they also perpetrated great evil.

Is the Pope in the same category as the aforementioned, no, but he isn't much better.

No hate, just critical analysis and logic, plus a little sadness for all the children who would never have been harmed if he had lived up to his job.

I'd have to disagree with you there.

i didnt assume anything, altho it seems clear now you are no fan of the pope. i honestly care very little whether he lives or dies. just making comments on the level of maturity it takes, lacks really, to disrespect (notice i didnt say criticize or state an opinion) someone on their deathbed.

Where did I claim to be a trailblazer? A lot of people couldn't care less, myself included. I'm simply voicing my opinion, no matter how offensive you find it to be.

Criticize him all you want, but don't act like animals.

He didn't speak out against pedeophillia[sic] and that is indeed a very big character flaw, but should we insult him on his death bed?

Sorry...I had just seen some ridiculous crap on TV and it just set me off:|

The Pope is nothing more than the Bishop of Rome. He isn't that important if you've ever studied medieval religion, you'd know that. Catholics don't need him. They don't need bishops either!

That's not the point.

The point is we need to stop putting people down when they are dying....

We continually demean ourselves by taking cheap shots at the defenseless.....
