this is my 998th post, and my car has a 998cc engine...

what size engines are in your cars? My car's an Austin Mini 1000 modified to put out just under 50bhp(!). but it's not as slow as you may think...the car only weighs 1400lbs so it'll get up over 90mph on a good day (and a downhill).

besides, it's nothing compared to the Mini 850 (847cc) that I used to have. what a dog! with more than just the driver in the car forget about anything even resembling highway speeds!

fyi, 1L = 6 hamsters (or thereabouts)

<< it'll get up over 90mph on a good day (and a downhill). >>

lol...... my friend need a car like that.... it'll keep him from speeding as much as he does now

<< fyi, 1L = 6 hamsters (or thereabouts) >>

hahaha

so my car must have a 10.8 hamster engine (1.8L.. 127hp)
not much, but i've gotten it up to 115mph before.

119 cid engine in my 1988 Accord, 120 cid in my 1976 914. Both are about 2.0 litres and both have multi-port FI systems.

🙂 thanks yakko

hahaha, rallispec...with that many hampsters, your engine size should double every two weeks (at which point 'exhaust pipe' takes on a whole new meaning)!

ooh, a 914, now there is a purdy car! I once rode in a 914 fitted with a 911 6 cylinder-man did that car fly! on launches, by the time my brain caught up with the car, we were already doing over 60mph!

<< I bet a 50 HP car weighing 1400 lbs is damn good on gas. >>

oh, only about 46 mpg with hard thrashing 🙂 but it's a high compression engine and tends to be a high octane snob

:Q
you say ONLY like its not that much!! my car only gets about 30mpg

hamsters rock!

It's much more purdy when it's running.... In 10 years or so when I'm out of college and have more money, I'd love to find a junked 914 that I could re-build to 916 spec (160 hp flat 6 in a car that's about 1,900 lbs), but the current 2.0 is in too good of condition for me to tear it apart to fit a 911 flat 6 in. I've always loved the Mini too, Issigonnis' (sp?) design ability is amazing, that car was much more fun to drive than it should have been. 🙂

EDIT: Forgot the 450cc engine on my '82 Honda CB450SC (Nighthawk) motorcycle. I'm guessing that makes about 30 hp. Now that I look at all these vehicles, I'm starting to understand why I'm constantly out of money and have the mechanic on speed-dial... Oh well, we all have to pay for our obsessions.

Toyota Tercel with a 1.5L engine producing about 93 HP. Will get to 90Mph but I normally dont go more than 80.
Suzuki GS 500, 500cc engine producing about 40HP.. cant wait to modd it to get 50HP. Will do 110Mph - 120 after mods. Done a maximum of 80.

<< Wow...what a clever way to NEF >>

neff? me? with 1.26 posts a day since oct 99, there's no way I could possibly even qualify 🙂 hahaha

jesus, I just read your post good_guy...50bhp on a motorcycle? how do you hold on???

tuck in, grab and hold on and do not let go for a ride like you have never ridden before.

Actually mine is rather underpowered JefferyLebowski's bike produces close to 90Hp, his bike is a super sport bike and hence much more power from an 600cc engine. Mine is rather mild, but I know how it feels to sit on a rocket that produces 100Hp from a 600cc engine, or even 150Hp from a 1000cc engine.

I've got a 1200cc engine in my 1989 Pontiac Lemans. It pulls something like 70hp, but I forget the car's weight. All I know is I can achive 100mph (barely) with the car fully loaded (4 passengers). I drive close to redline all the time & still pull about 45mpg.

<< 100Hp from a 600cc engine, or even 150Hp from a 1000cc engine >>

:Q how much does a bike like this weigh? the hp to weight ratio must be down in the single digits...easily...

<< The heck you driving? >>

wow. something tractoresque? or a good ol' big block?

<<
  • 7,541 cc
  • 7.5 litre
  • 460 ci
Huffs 12lbs of fuel per day! :Q

So about 2.5-3 gallons then. (Water is 8lbs/gallon, and gasoline is lighter than water. It's just a guestimate.)

my first car was a Subara Mini Jumbo (2 cyl -- 699 cc -- 39 bhp)
80 mph was the max i could get out of it (downhill -- stong tailwind -- 2 people in the back and let gravity do the job)
uphill i had to get out of the car and start pushing -- passengers were not so happy with that 🙂

now i have a Peugeot 106 (4 cyl -- 1400 cc -- 75 bhp)
it's not a high performance car but it gets my butt from A to B
