Your right. A modern 5400 RPM laptop drive blows away eMMC in sequential transfers.
Great. Now all you need is to make it so that the entire OS, every program that gets launched, and the antivirus are all sequential!

I feel sorry for any friends/family you're recommending spinning drive machines to.

If the alternative is a Chromebook or tablet with eMMC, I don't see the problem. If Dell's Venue line has been any indication, it's like using a slightly better than average SD card for the OS.
