I'm seeing a bunch of ads that are pretty much just verbatim my recent searches. Aside from being really lazy advertising, I think it's a security issue. I've deleted all my Google cookies and they still show up. Is it permanent?

It's not from your searches. Ads for penis enlargement and erectile dysfunction are on many sites. :awe:

One day somebody is actually gonna discover a drug to enlarge penises.
And no one will believe him.

Well... you can stop using chrome, gmail, google and any/all of their products and hope for the best

That's about all you can do

Use Ghostery?
And BetterPrivacy. It'll let you clear Flash cookies.
(Go to Options for the addon, click Remove All LSOs.)
It can remove them when Firefox restarts too, but you may need to protect some of them if you play certain Flash games. Some of them use these cookies to save your progress.

Yeah it's actually pretty scary the amount of tracking that is possible. I'm not sure how they even do this, because I've had it where I search for stuff at home. (I use adblock etc) and get to work, and see ads on the exact same thing I searched for. WTF? how do they even do this? What worries me is if they can do that, then what can more malicious people like the government or hackers do? I feel like if they can do this it must mean they can see the content of webpages that I'm in, such as banking or passwords that I enter, etc.
