why are people here not getting that sometimes people have puppies (and much more frequently kittens since it's easier to find adopters) WITHOUT being a breeder? You know, not for the money, not a puppy mill, just letting nature go its way because you like puppies or have a farm, or by mistake.

My old dog had a puppy too. Big deal.

With shelter dog adoption, it's a hit or miss when it comes to health, but they don't necessarily have psychological problems although it happens. If you stick with young dogs you can change them.
Buying in a parking lot/from a puppy mill that doesn't let you visit the location is a guarantee of health problems.
Buying from a proper and well-known dog breeder with proper structures, cats and stuff costs money but you have guarantees, except for the typical health problems of the race in question.

When the pups are old enough to be given away, you can't wait too much. So the lady was cunty for doing what she did but she did her own and the dog's interest. For what she knew, you could have been the 100th flake and then she'd be stuck with the dog, after a certain threshold (proper age to be separated from the other puppies and mother but young enough to be trained) the older the dog is the more difficult it is to give away. There are so many flakes in selling stuff on the internet, there are even more in animal adoption because it's such a big commitment and people often look form multiple sources before deciding so they often end up flaking out.

WOW at the bold in this argument. More WOW at your defense of the rest.

this is a good thing really. you dont need a particular dog or even a "favorite" breed. there are tons of mutts that need to be saved. when you buy from a puppy mill youre supporting all sorts of animal abuse

She is technically a mutt, and not from a mill. Not even my favorite breed; just the one that met the requirements of my wife. You wouldn't go out and get a poodle if you need a hunting dog.

When you burn their house down, make sure their dog is not in it. 😉

Go to the shelter and pick a dog to rescue, at least you'll still get a dog, maybe not a puppy though.

She's going in for her first grooming today in about an hour (sanitary trim, foot pads, her cat like claws) and then I'll have more 🙂

Poodles (not the miniature ones, but the full size) are great hunting dogs

Don't let society trick you into thinking otherwise

Also, cute dog

Hope you have a good vacuum... Looks like she has a lot of hair ;P

Poodles and poodle mixes don't shed much, but have to be clipped.

The mix names are terrible, the show clips are terrible, and some owners (particularly of toy poodles) are terrible, but the dogs themselves are actually pretty great.

Damn, I'm sorry. That is tragic. It is probably best it happened so quick though, as the dog probably had a genetic defect that would have come out sooner or later and then you would have had time to truly become attached. Don't give up you will find a perfect dog that you can love for many years.

They say things happen for a reason....

WTF, it looks like you're not meant to own a dog.

Hopefully you did not have time to get too attached to her.

Sorry for your loss amdhunter.
