I build my mom a PC

the memory is OCZ2v8002gk - 2x1 GB kit paid like $35.99 + tax canadian (its value ram)

DDR2 - 800 MHz

CPUZ is reporting 4 GB mem
Control panel -> system - is reporting 3 GB mem
bios is reporting 4 GB memory

i know all about 32 bit not recognizing 4 GB

BUT I BOUGHT A 2 GB KIT AND THE STICKERS ON THE RAM SAY 1 GB (each)

Did i get a free bonus ???????????????????????????
 
Uhh.....the stickers on the memory say 1gb I find it highly unlikely someone mis-labeled the sticks. Im not sure what to say. It sounds like it, you sure it says 1gb each and you didnt buy the 4gb kit instead of 2gb? heh.
 
Not impossible but unlikely. 😛

Perhaps some DS sticks were sent down a SS line and you won the memory lottery. It happens. Either that or they figured out a way to get the SPD to trick the system into thinking it has twice the actual physical memory. That would be known as SoftRAM95 syndrome. :laugh:
 
On a side note and not to burst your bubble, you can get 4 GB kits at NCIX.com (quality ones) for that same price pretty much all the time 😉. But glad you won that lottery.
 
NCIX was not an option, we dont like to buy online and so we went to our local canada computers

but this is kinda cool, not that she needs the extra 1 GB or so that Xp recognizes but its a goof plus
 
Reminds me of the the time that I ordered two motherboards from Germany, and hidden inside the bubble wrap that was packed around them, was an AMD64 3800+ single-core CPU, which I'm running right now.
 
Check the codes on the RAM against google - not the stickers but the engraving on the actual chip codes themselves. You'll know right away if you really have 2GB or 4GB.
