So I purchased a Corsair SSD Drive from Newegg at the suggestion of some of you guys here for my son's latest build. Good drive and it had a $30 rebate...

So I fill out the paperwork, send in the form, the UPC and then I get this email today that tells me that my purchase didn't fall in the window of opportunity???

I get online with there CS:

You have been connected to Nathalie .
Nathalie : Thank you for using The RebatesHQ Chat.

Nathalie : Let me verify this invalid status and do my best to help you today. Please stand by while I locate your rebate record.

Alan : okay

Nathalie : Thank you for your patience. Our records shows the purchase date was 10/18/11 and the promotion was only for purchases between 10/21/11 and 10/27/11.

Nathalie : I am sorry but we're unable to process your rebate request.

Alan : Was there another code then? Because when I purchased the product from newegg it showed a $30 rebate...

Alan : Please check your codes, I KNOW there was a rebate available when I purchased it

Nathalie : I check online and we don't have any other promotion for this type of product during the time of your purchase.

Nathalie : You can look it up online at
www.corsairrebates.com.

Alan : This is ridiculous, I bought the drive BECAUSE there was a rebate

Nathalie : You can go to the site I listed above and look if there is any promotion available, I just did and was unable to find it.

Alan : and what you gave me was just a tracking site...not a list of rebates

Nathalie : Do you see where it says "Pre-Submit your rebate"?

Alan : yes

Nathalie : Click on it and enter the product purchased, the date and where was purchased.

Alan : It wont let me change the date

Nathalie : What I can do for you is send the request to be review for you.

Nathalie : You can click on the littler calendar.

Nathalie : And choose the date.

Alan: I need to talk to a supervisor, this is ridiculous

Alan : When I purchased the product there was a rebate

Alan: my form shows the rebate code and the date and the date purchased

Nathalie : What is the dates it?

Alan: you have my form in front of you, what does it say?

Nathalie : It says valid dates 10/21/11 through 10/27/11.

Alan: one moment, I will find it

Nathalie : Yes, please take your time.

Alan: Ok, I must have used the wrong rebate FORM, I KNOW there was a rebate for CORSAIR CSSD-F90GB3-BK SSD

Nathalie : Once you find it, please contact us back and we will take care of it for you.

Alan : well how do I search it?

Alan : I want to search by product, not date

Nathalie : On the website and I am afraid that we don't have any rebates during that time.

Nathalie : It won't give you the option to look it up by product.

Nathalie : It must be with the date and the purchase location.

Alan: another moment please...let me look at something on newegg

Nathalie : Yes, in the meanwhile I will transfer to my supervisor.

Omario has entered the session.

Omario : Hi, I'm a supervisor at the rebate department. One moment please while I read you inquiry.

Nathalie has left the session.

Alan : Ok, I am searching something on newegg

Omario : ok.

Omario : As my agent explained to you, this promotion you applied for was running between 10/21/2011 and 10/27/2011.

Omario : The online form you sent to us does show that information.

Alan: This is so frustrating, when I ordered the product, there was a $30 rebate, it is why I ordered the SSD DRIVE

Omario : I understand your concern and I'm sorry you've been going through this situation regarding your rebate status, but we must abide by the terms and conditions of this offer.

Alan :
I need an address or email to send a complaint. I will send in further information AND filing a complaint with the BBB

Omario : Just a moment please.

Omario : Thank you for waiting.

Omario : I was speaking with my manager and I've approved your rebate.

Alan: Thank you, can you send me email verification of this?

Omario : You're welcome.

Omario : Sure I can .

Omario : In 5 minutes you'll receive it.

Omario : Your Visa prepaid card for $30.00 will be mailed within the next 4-6 weeks.

Alan : and do you have an email or phone number I can reach you with if I don't receive the email?

Omario : To keep tracking you rebate status, please visit our website
www.rebateshq.com and use the same rebate tracking number you placed on the chat form.

Omario : Yes I do have a number.

Alan : Thanks...

Omario : Here's 1-855-238-7042.

Omario : My employee number is 1109.

Omario : I'm a supervisor.

Omario : Is there anything else that I can I assist you with today?

Alan : Thanks you for your help Omario, I look forward to receiving this confirmation email...

Omario : It was my pleasure to help you.

Omario : Thank you for using Rebateshq chat. Please let us know how we are doing by taking a quick customer service exit survey. When you close the browser the exit survey will pop open.

Omario : Enjoy the rest of your day!

Omario : Bye.

Alan : Good bye...

Now I don't want something I am not due, I'm not trying to BEAT THE SYSTEM, but isn't it kind of funny when I said I was going to file a complaint with the BBB, suddenly they can help me?

It is better then Dell. However once you get to the right person with Dell doors just seem to open in front of you and EVERYTHING is better, almost at once as if by magic. I at one point had to threaten legal action against dell as they shipped me a desktop with graphic driver problems that would cause it not too display anything at the right resolution. When I contacted the support team for Dell they told me this wasn't covered under any warranty and that since it was software you would need to pay their $100-something price for a solution. Needless to say on a product that just shipped one would expect it to work and if it didn't work then one should expect something to be done about it? NO! After 3 customer support representatives, section manager, and a floor supervisor, they agreed to send someone out to replace the GPU for free. They also sent me a 10 foot HDMI cable a 12 foot DisplayPort cable, and a 10 foot DVI-D cable. All because one of the customer representatives misspoke at one point and said the computer should have shipped with all three (which it didn't as it only ships with VGA). Anyway, long story short if you complain loud enough shit gets done right.

Strange thing is that the BBB is not of much help really. Not like they have any power to punish a company. Many companies could care less if the BBB puts a strike against them on their info board or not.

Anyhow, I'm glad you got your problem taken care of. Let us know when you get rebate card in the mail. I'm curious how long it takes.

yeah i dont get it... it seems like a newegg problem if they posted a rebate for a product that wasnt even valid.

hats off to corsair for being a stand up company, well at least their rebate department is. they clearly proved you wrong and yet they still dished out the $30......

Probably what happened? I imagine the CS department keeps some kind of ratings file or system for supervisors as a way to grade their performance. The most plausible reason why he changed his tune is that BBB complaints would affect his file, whether or not the complaint was right or wrong. That's why he suddenly decided to give you the rebate even though it wasn't technically owed to you. Did you play the system and win? Sounds like it 🙂

Why can't newegg back up rebate deals? If the item is bought with a rebate, and the manufacturer claims the rebate isn't valid, it's not the manufacturer's fault, it's newegg's fault for now knowing the rebate isn't valid. If the manufacturer isn't obliged to pay, newegg should pay because it was their mistake.

I can tell you what I do while shopping.

All my computers has doPDF installed (it is a free PDF printer).

http://www.dopdf.com/

When I shop I press on the Print choose the doPdf as printer, it generates in few seconds pdf file that induces a "picture" of the page with all the info involving the deal. If there is rebate I keep a pdf of the rebate too. In addition I always look at the specific dates on the actual rebate form before I pull the trigger on the purchase.

I keep these pdfs for a while in case any proof is needed.

I do the above because most of the vendors would do anything possible to get away with Not honoring their rebates.

😎

I can't believe I read the whole transaction. I still can't tell if they were in the wrong, in which case both her and her supervisor LIED to you. Or if you made a mistake and forced them to give you $30. The only thing I could tell is both the girl and her supervisor were incredibly calm and polite and you were a borderline jerk.

newegg should pay ifyou cant read the rebate form?

here is what probably happened.

OP bought it during valid rebate

OP went to get rebate form from newegg at a later date when was ready to do it

newegg already had new rebate form on page for new time period for same amount

OP used it anyways instead of going to newegg rebate center and doing correct form

OP bitched to CS and got it anyways

I do also...
It seems like the obvious thing to do.

Bitched is so...harsh, grin.

I was once scammed by NCIX on a $10 MSI rebate for a video card and I will NEVER forgive their ass for doing that. They had a lot of messages about MSI rebate scams on hardforum as well. So, I know I wasn't the only one.

I remember at the time thinking I wasn't sure what to do and didn't pursue the matter further. I might go farther the next time. I know $10 may not sound like a lot, but the mere fact it happened to a bunch of people sounds very unethical.

Just a follow up. I had a run in today with these guys - they have denied rebates on my Corsair H100 and 550D because of the maximum postmark days from purchase rule (though I was still ahead of the final postmark deadline).

My fault? Possibly - except, as I discussed over several days in the cases and cooling forum here, the first H100 I was sent turned out to be defective. I had to return it to newegg for replacement. I couldn't send it back without the UPC code, so I had to wait for the new one and ensure that it worked before cutting the UPC code for the rebate. It turns out that I missed the deadline by 1 day (Didnt realize that I did). The rebatesHQ supervisor, a "Ricardo", was completely inflexible and condescending to me.

Strongly advise against buying any products, including Corsair products, with this company as the rebate processor.

this rebate crap needs to stop. They make you jump through as many hoops as possible. I have several $10 rebates that I'm not getting (so far) the time it takes to call them, be on hold, complain etc is really worth the $10. They know this and so the rebate scam continues. They probably fulfill 1/3 of rebates.
