This is how to share and use common FAVORITES on several machines

I've seen this question sometime ago and forgot the actual registry to do this. Now that I am at home, I got the exact path to do this.

Do you have several machines in your network and would like to share a common favorites folder? I know roaming profiles and synchronizing probably work well, but this is the simpler method.

To share and use your common FAVORITES folder:

1. Go to the main machine and create a favorite folder (say on c:\favorites)
2. Share the favorites folder and make sure your users have the correct permissions to add files into your fav folder. (say your share is \\server\favorites )
3. Fill the favorite folder with all your current favorites.
located on c:\windows\favorites on Win9x (assuming you don't use profiles)
located on c:\document and settings\username\favorites on win2K
located on c:\winnt\profiles\username\favorites on NT4
4. Open your registry editor (regedit.exe)
5. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders key
6. Look for favorites and change the value to your share name (in this example it would be \\server\favorites
7. Reboot

Done ! 🙂 You can now share a common favorite folder on your network. hope this help answering the question posted previously.

You can also make that a hidden share by adding a $ at the end of the share name.

I also archive favicons in a ..\Favorites\Icons directory, which is hidden. There is a program on ZDNet's web site called FavOrg that will go out to all of you Favorites and grab the updated favicon for the site. I've got a good 50 to 80 icons now.
