This is how foreigners probably view America.

-You can come to America, bunk up with your "Cozun", and get into sexy crazy adventures all day.

-A typical family consists of dad, 3 young daughters, and 2 best friends, who all live in harmony.

-It is perfectly fine to leave your 3 young daughters with your 2 best friends, all alone.

-Every six months, your teenage son will make some girl pregnant, and promise to pay for abortion

-Cops in America do everything with "Style"

-Some cars talk back to you.

-If you have a femal cop partner, you end up sleeping with her, and saving her life in the end.

-High School is all about fun, and not studying. Infact no one ever studies. Classes are all about comedy

-There are probably no Asians, Hispanic or Black people in America

-If they are, they are very stereotypical. The Asian ones always know Kung Fu.

-Aliens do exist and they often share your house.

-There is always this one cop who is a multi millionaire, drives a Ferrari, and is still a cop, for the "Thrills".

-And some live on yachts with pet alligators.

-After college, you move into a swanky Manhattan apartment, and sleep with all your new friends.

-All problems are resolved in 30 minutes.

Hopefully there not too many people mistake what is on TV for real life. And if they do hopefully they do not vote.

Just like the same people who ask foreigners "Do they have cars in your country", "Do they have electricity there?"

and best of all... "Do people carry guns with them all the time in your country?"

ironically... most of it is true... some people really do view america like this.

They do, don't they? And they also have terrorist everywhere.

Some of it is true. American high school seemed like a dream come true!

In college I met a foreign exchange student from Romania. Told me he was pretty disappointed that America was not the total party atmosphere, with beautiful women looking for hot sex everywhere, that he had hoped for. He apparently watched a lot of 80s comedies ie Porky, Meatballs, Ski School, and etc.

Hahah!!! Word to that.

But I would have thought that someone from Romania probably already knows that.

I've been asked several times if I live in an igloo because I live in Canada. And I have managed to convince one person I have a pet penguin.
People are stupid. We gotta learn to live with it.

Hold on... So, all the stuff in Ally McBeal, is that made up? 😕

<EDIT>I suck at teh emoticon</EDIT>

My best friend at work is Romanian and he said a LOT of people in his area based their perception on what they saw on TV - both in their newscasts and from US movies and other entertainment media. I'd imagine it's similar to that all over the place. The entertainment industry is probably our biggest area of export in the grand scheme of things. Fortunately my co-worker is a very smart guy and had a good sense of reality from readings and other materials. So he wasn't surprised to find the real world in America is different than the unrealistic norm depicted on TV.

yes, tv is the perfect reflection of society. esp sitcoms.

and from watching tnn, sat nights or whenever, japanese people say funny things before falling into mud water, while being chased by cheesy "spooky" things that throw rocks as you run by..

last year I was on vacation in Oregon & California

some things we picked up in conversations

-do you also have a lot of problems with illegal mexicans in Belgium?
-Begium, was there last year, nice city
-do you have cars in Europe
-Why do you come to the US for mountain climbing, you have the Alps in Belgium

there was also someone who couldn't belief we had a Ford production plant in Belgium because Ford is American

😕

stupidity is universal and has no boundaries

Americans always believe strange things about Sweden (polar bears, that all women here are blond and called Inga, etc).
I don´t understand this.

It's because we never hear anything about your countries. No offense, but important international news-worthy things don't happen in Sweden that often 🙁 Some of the questions do sound extremely stupid though.

Since News-worthy things in the US usually include one or more dead guys and one or more guns, bo not many News-worthy htings happen in Sweden 😉

Yeah, I know, but I just don´t understand were these myths come from.
BTW, we don´t have higher suicide rate than the average country (lower actually).

I tend to think Japan is full of sexually-repressed perverted anime fans who work too damn much, and who in what little spare time they have buy used panties from vending machines, and go home to watch fecal bukkake fetish porn.
