How many of you guys listen to the old timers here for the benefit of their experiences??

Im not talking about long time on the board. I am talking about long time life experience regardless of age! It doesnt have to be politics either, it could be cars, movies, life style or ???

Im taking about Russ, Harvey ( A Democrat, Intelligent but misguided), Red, Tominator, MWilding, Viper GTS, myself and the like. (Sorry if I left anyone else out, I'll, add you to the list if you just request it and please do!

BTW, I support GWB but you dont have to!

I don't think so, this one has NEF written all over it.

If you are talking about Viper GTS, i really wouldn't say he has much 'life experience'.

What are ya Viper, 22?

Well, I am not an old timer, and I am more aligned with the democratic platform than otherwise, but I would like to think that I should be in your list (i.e., amt advice given > amt advice gotten from ATOTers). That would be nice since I never made that "If You are New Here This Is All You Need to Know" list (Ameesh??, 2002).

;) I was going to say 20 but some people get pissed if you guess under 21 and they are over 21. for whatever reason.

40? Oh if it is based on what we are 'going on' i would say i'm about 40-45 too. :p

FWIW: i enjoy speaking to members of a couple generations older than me. I like to hear about how it was during WWII and in the 50's and 60's. My dad grew up in the 50s and 60s and i could listen to him tell stories of his 65 GTO all night long, or of his time in the Army. I find most of that interesting.

STRANGE!!!

Most of the people I thought would have been with me either in principal or for the laughs seem to be the most estranged so far.

Well, I usually go for the laughs first but if it isnt working here Ill just go to Saint Martins and Saint Thomas islands for a few weeks.

I don't really get the point of this thread but to answer the question as I see it I dont' really listen to the old timers for advice...i have my DAD for that. :p And usually old timers, including my dad, speak as if because of their experiences they know all and know best which is true SOME of the time but not all of the time. Plus, old timers are always so set in their ways. Most are usually very close minded about things and i like to hear advice from people who can accept that they can be wrong sometimes. :p

sorry if that's not what you were asking....i'm kind of confused!

In my experience, wisdom is not something that directly corresponds to age. It helps, but it's not a guaranteed thing.

There are quite a few people here I trust for advice, especially Kranky, Tominator, Russ, Mister T (financial), RossMAN (credit), vi_edit (career, financial decisions) and I'm sure quite a few more. WombatWoman is the one who talked me into going back to the eye doctor again, even finding a local eye clinic with national fame. That resulted in me FINALLY figuring out what the hell was wrong with my vision (and probably my driving record as well). MSBHVN (or however he spelled it) was another, but he doesn't hang out around here any more. I'm still waiting on pics of his daughter. :p

Err...back on topic. For advice on everyday life, hell no. I think that now that a lot of you have said and done everything, you expect us (the new youths on the block) not to paint the town red like you used to. Not gonna happen. ;) This forum is the one place a person can come to hear about how all the perfect people would respond in a civilized, mannered fashion and pooh-pooh the one who doesn't.

On politics...definitely. I never found Russ to contribute much serious content, but the other conservatives on the forum have definitely changed my liberal views on a variety of issues. Example: I'm now anti-gun grabber, because criminals will always manage to get their paws on them - you might as well equalize. I think I can sum that end of things up with a quote from Winston Churchill:

Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.

That's not perfectly accurate but you'll understand my point. ;)
