Damn. The callousness of that statement. How dare they pay the people who did the work before someone like me who did nothing and just wants money.

Did the money you invested in American Airlines appear out of thin air? It is a callous statement. But it is pretty silly to think the capital invested to buy part of AA didn't require work to create.

So let's see the workers gave up pay and benefits when the company was in trouble. Now the company is doing better and some asshat thinks that improvement shouldn't be shared with those who sacrificed before? What a douchebag.

I'm a stock broker. This is what I do for a living and I still think the statement is absolutely ridiculous. If you are in business than you pay the people who do your work first. Make them whole. Your investors put money in knowing the risk. If they didn't than they should have been more diligent on their own.

American is paying well below industry standards after emerging from bankruptcy. If they want to maintain their staffing they need to take this step.

On a related note, it is kinda sad how everyone angles to be a victim. Even the alt-right. If you're gonna be advocating for meritocracy and a natural order, make different arguments.

The problem is the viewpoint that many have in which work equals money and money equals work. This is a total abstraction.

If they are paying below market this was the right business decision.

Shareholders should aways get paid last. Always.

Shareholders are supposed to get the "leftovers". (Whether it be profits or assets distributed in liquidation/bankruptcy.)

Whoever said that should be embarrassed.
