I'll try to be brief.

1. bought dell 9200, found out later it was SATA only.
2. took out SATA dvdr because i feel my bios haxed NEC IDE drive was far more superior
3. installed promise ide controller i had laying around... gay ass windows puts on permanant PIO mode since there is no option to change to DMA (all controllers installed always show up as SCSI in hardware device manager)
4. SO Fricken pissed off burning stuff at like 1.9x zzzz grrr*(^&(^&(%$%$^^&^
5. Tried so many ways to get this setup to work... finally gave up and reinstalled the SATA dvdr drive
6. Would not go pass boot screen (i dunno why Dell has bios option to enable or disable SATA instead of just autodetecting..... i mean wtf why cant they just have both... wtf is wrong with IDE neway)
7. Realized that in bios setting there is an option for SATA RAID... took it off and put on RAID Autodetect...
8. Windows BSOD's when on raid autodetect. But dvdr drive detected before BSOD

So aside from having to backup data on my main drive and reinstall windows under RAID Autodetect instead of RAID ON (bios setting)... what other options do I have...

Is it possible to unraid a raid marked/tagged drive? The drives are not even in any raid configuration btw... just the bios was set to RAID ON....

this is pissing me off... i should just sell the bitch and and get a real mobo...zzzzzzzzzz

1. 'Dude, you bought a dell'
2. why add IDE to an Sata oonly machine?
3. Sata and Scsi all show up as Scsi in XP
4. is the NEC drive a 2x burner? 🙂
5. so you put back the original hardware it came with, and worked
6. no idea why it ownt boot
7. I wouldnt set the mobo to use raid if it wasnt raid to begin with

why buy a Dell if your going to change all this stuff around?

I'm not sure what's up with the RAID being "on" in the BIOS, but it's that way on all systems. Did you try turning it back on in the BIOS? Weird, I know, and doesn't make sense to me either, but give it a try.

You should have researched before buying, there are no PATA connections, and there are quite a few threads about this. Don't even bother trying to use a PATA drive in a new dell that doesn't have PATA connections. It will not work, period.

u must be kidding me rite? didn't read my post?

1. i know dell blows donkeys
2. to use the IDE NEC drive with the haxed bios unlocking all media burns / booktyping
3. any controller added in would show up as scsi so cannot do the force DMA thing like on IDE controllers native to the mobo
4. no.. not that dumb... its a 16x burner read post (also tried other 16x ide burners too)
5. put back original hardware now doesnt work because raided in the bios but not really in raid
6. thanks for the help
7. i didn't set it up that way either an didnt realize it was set that way until i took closer look at the bios

didn't know the 9200 was ALL SATA... didn't even know that they took out IDE in most newer intel chipsets... 9200 came with a cheap lcd package... not a bad PC but not good for what i am doing

zzz...

yeah i guess i found out the hard way... i really just dunno wtf putting the original drive back in and it won't work.. like window's bsod's ... it looks like it's conflicting when both are in for crying out fricken loud there are like 6 sata ports total.... when i stick the drive onto the other sata ports (w/o enabling the sata port) it would hang with weird characters like &*%%%# during the blackscreen boot pre windows loading.

this is a fricken disaster... zzzz

Update : Issued resolved... got lucky...

1. took out the ide card loaded only sata devices... works like a charm
2. still need 3 ide hd's attached to the ide card so reinstalled card... once again freezes...
3. move ide controller card to last PCI slot away from from the video card. card now not detected
4. move to PCI slot 1 away from last... boots, works fine... so i hope

zzzz
