This is astounding - A64 3200+ DivX in 32bit - 60 fps. 64-bit - 145 fps.

Wouldn't be the first there was a serious flaw in PCMark 2004 that allow scores to be inflated. Not even AMD's handpicked test of DivX showed that kind of increase.

yes it is extremely flawed as I got a athlon 3200+ barton to hit that high in divx...Makes sure you have same codec installed on all as what codec you have installed can effect preformance....5.02pro is blazing fast versus 5.05 or 5.10 but we all know the quality is much higher. also default settings with the newer codec are higher as well....

Notice how not all te scores show that same type of benefit anf in some instances take a hit. Notice the last number that is slightly obscured...That graphics memory score is what like 475 versus the 2000's of the others....

Real world test count not crappy, buggy, easy to be manipulated, and difficult to compare, synthetic junk from futuremock....

64bits by all accounts could not take that kind of performance enhancement and talk at the video forum is there will be little improvement cause they say the app is not optimized well for it....

What about this "OggEnc" they're talking about at LinuxHardware, is that a real app, or another synthetic one? They were getting a 30% improvement in 64-bit (on Linux, of course).

Also note their comparison of POVRay in 32-bit and 64-bit, if it's relevant to you.

I got my lil' Clawhammer in today, by the way :) I've already run some gnarly antivirus and compression benchies on my nForce2 2500+ rig, and will be repeating them on the 3000+ later this week to see what it's able to do.

i have seen this stuff with linux for awhile...the OGGenc app is not optimized much for the p4 it is hard to say if the jump will be real in lots of other more mainstream windows apps.....

Also I have a bone with the povray example cause I am familiar with this...First the number is correct on the linux and 64bit and long has been posted at povray's site...If it wasn't for the 64bit and the optimized K8 code by the way which is not the standard downloadable benchmark the p4 xeons would have the lead at the site....

1) the 3.2ghz mark is a joke since my 3.2ghz scored much better then that so I wonder how they neutered it...I can bet you they didn't run the p4 optimized code while they did run it for the amds....

2)they didn't run it with HT.....With HT they could have cut that time to 24 minutes as I did with mine.....My 3.5 HT time is 22:45 sec

One thing that is true and has been shown is the 64bit does a better looking image with closer inspection but I don't understand why it does anymore work other then the set factors as listed in the benchmark file that control pallette, resolution and quality scale factor.

Overall POV-Ray was created by guys who mainly run amd systems and the program is nowhere near as optimized for the p4 as other apps as seen by the good showing of a 3200+ barton versus the p4 3.2c we don't see in most all other apps. I would imagine if they actually spent some time to come of with some p4 optimization we could already see better performance.

The fact is I use this app in test to show ppl I don't always run just P4 optimized apps. There are other raytracing applications that don't show the results as POV-Ray does but tend to lean towards the P4 and show you what p4 optimizations can realize. Like I said this is a program far more catered to athlons and anyone who goes to the site and reads about it and goes to some of the corresponding forums will see this.

I am not complaining....If windows 64bit shows this kind of improvement and the athlon ramps up a bit to get further ahead of my 22:45sec showing with HT I will be all over the athlon64.....I don't see myself running Linux for several reasons right now...

Finally that is excellent results for the 64bits in linux...I would like to see someone test to see if this is also the same with the windows 64 bit incarnation.....It would be nice to see if Windows 64bit is up to snuff versus MS...

Nice! What mobo did you pair with the A64 3000+?

I downloaded the beta 64 bit windows earlier today. I can't wait to do some comparisons 32-32 and 32-64. Hopefully I can find a (beta) 64 bit C++ compiler for windows. I have a spatially explicit simulation model (and data) that will humble any system. Now that will be fun to benchmark.

It seems like it is just a matter of time before one of my daily newegg shopping carts gets processed as an order. Must wait ... little ... longer ... for ... nForce3 250 or the ESC A2 revision SIS board.

Download the 64-bit compiler here (not the most recent one btw, the more recent builds have much improved performance over the older ones - don't know how to get that other than be a MS beta tester ;)):

Microsoft Visual C++ 64-bit early build

Download the .pdf on the AMD website to configure it using Visual C++ 6.0. I've done it with Visual Studio .NET too, so it can be done in that environment, but that environment is a lot more picky. Easier to do it with the 6.0 visual studio IMO.

I got a K8V Deluxe, which will go into this system in place of the A7N8X Deluxe and 2500+. The fly in the ointment could be the onboard PCI-based Promise RAID controller, which may try to take precedence over my SCSI cards as the boot device... I'll disable it in the BIOS if I can't find another way around that, but I see a couple other BIOS settings that may have some bearing on this question.

Yellow and blue slots. Why, Asus, why?! :disgust: This thing is embarrasing to be seen with in public... thank goodness I don't have a case window. And the box art... yeah, a cross between a wolf and a ?saber-toothed dragon?, chromed, and wearing blue eye shadow. I can really identify with this.

~ not! I mean heck, even Comcast seems to have the right idea... ;)

Make sure to post your benchies somewhere, cowdog. Real-world stuff, keep it coming :)
