Hey AT'ers,

I was hoping for a little advice on a question I believe I already know the answer to. :(

Here it goes:

The other day I posted an ad on craiglist for a PC I'm trying to sell. Eventually, I get an email from someone asking how the condition is etc.. I reply back, and then get a response asking for my name and address so they can send the payment. I actually figured they wanted that info to come by and check out or buy the PC. So I give him the information, and shortly thereafter I recieve and email address from "usps-mo_issue@consultant.com". That address set off some alarms, but after reading the email, I'm definately convinced it's a scam.

<sarcasm>I don't think it's a scam. Go send the PC to them right now....send it to that non-address they gave you.</sarcasm>

Sorry, but this seems very much a scam.......

Someone here posted a similar scam a few weeks ago. And yeah, it is B.S. of course.
The last time this came up it ended up being a discussion on if it is legal to mail poop. I see no reason why this one cannot go the same way :D

Of course it's fake. But you can string them along though... i bet when you ask for their address, they'll be in nigeria... you can then send a box of bricks to them.

Nah, they just want to deposit 10 million dollars into your bank account (account number, check and routing number required of course) 10% of which you'll get to keep as payment for your assistance.

Uh... scam. You can see this one from a million miles away.

There is no such thing as a virtual USPS money order.

Even if there was, there is no such thing as "Royal Mail Courier Services" offered by the USPS (sounds likes something Great Britian might offer).

Not withstanding any of that, the USPS would not use some lame 3rd party domain name (consultant.com) to send out their email for them.

Finally, why would the USPS get into the business of serving as a proxy for private transactions?

I would ask for a real address, then ship him a box of cow manure COD.

Hey thanks. To be honest, it didn't look like a scam to me until that email, because before that the person was asking about the quality of the Pc etc... But after I read that email, I figured that unfortunately it was a scam. Thanks for reaffirmating my suspicion.

you are a high school wrestler? watch out for kids with broomsticks in the locker room...

Yes I am a wrestler, but uhm, as for broomsticks...?

FYI, the new "thing" with scams is that they will ask you for the description/quality/condition of the item and then ask for all your personaly information.

This is the part that made me laugh. Why would the US Postal Service have Royal Mail Courier Service? Haha, we haven't been a British colony for almost 230 years Mr. Scrammer.
