they are taking an inventory of all the machines at my job and using these PDAs w/infra red .

some momo just shot me in the eye w/the laser from his PDA device and my eye hurts. Fargan idiot ! Are those things dangerous ?

Im sure your eye is ok...i think if you were to stare into the laser for an extended period of time it could cause damage, but a quick zap, naw...

They can be, however the lazer would need to be concentrated long enough to do any real damage. I doubt anything serious is going to result, just go ruin him.

If your eye hurts you have the weakest eyes in the world. An optical mouse is brighter than those things.

Cant be all that dangerous unless you have some coke botle glasses

So was it IR or a laser?

Neither one should have hurt you.

lol, those are LED's, not lasers. A laser will burn part of the back of your eye and you will have a permenant blind spot in that eye. LED's are(can be) just very bright lighbulbs.

I wouldn't worry about it so long as it wasn't a continous exposure over a few minutes. And from what you've said, it doesn't even sound like it was a laser.

you f*king pussy...you'd need to stare in that stuff for hours in order to get any damage. Those things are rated in mWatts...you need a tons of energy to have a laser burn something. Thats why people dont do lasec surgeries with their laser pointers

Those small lasers you find in most laser pointers and barcode readers would take at least a few seconds constant exposure to cause any real damage.

LEDs can't blind you AFAIK.

I laser that is less than 1mW is considered eye safe. Your eye will soak most of the energy before it gets too deep to cause any damage.

Different wavelengths have higher tolerances but the minimum is 1mW unless you get into the UV spectrum.

we had a neon gas laser in the lab that one of the students "accedinally" shot it into the eye of our teacher. This was a farily good size laser and he saw only red crystals for about a week in that eye. but he is back to normal now.
