But, I bet you can run cat5 with the best of them.

I have 84 ethernet jacks alone. Even if that were the only CAT5 I'd run, that'd be an average of 71ft per leg. The house is over 200ft from end-to-end, and there are 3 stories with network coverage. The two central wiring hubs are located on opposite ends, 220ft of cable between them. This is existing construction with a fixed ceiling, so everything had to go through certain spaces. It's very easy to see how 6000ft came to be.
