This hotel sucks

I'm in Jerusalem. The hotel that I'm staying by is charging me $10 for every 24 hours of internet service, but it's not 24 hours of usage, it's timed from when I first log on. That sucks.

If you're in Jerusalem, I can always come pick you up and you can post from my comp...
Plus, you'll get to see all kinds of places and weird people.
😀

(you pay for gas, though)

I don't get it...you're coming out ahead. Would you rather pay $10 for 24 hours starting at 12AM?

I think he was hoping that the timer would start when he connected, pause while he wasn't using the connection, then resume when he reconnected. Or better yet, only charge time when he was actively downloading. I have never stayed in a hotel where either was the case, and cannot imagine that a hotel would care enough to install a system to track at this level.

Be thankful it is 24 hours from login and not a 'daily rate'.

That's standard practice in hotels that charge for broadband access.

Unfortunately, this seems to be true, at least of the nicer hotels.

I've never been overseas, but here in the US at least, it seems that the more I pay for the room, the more I pay for everything else.

I.e. Hampton Inn... 69-89/ night (most places) Free Internet, Free Local / 800 Calls, free breakfast etc.

Hilton hotel, 129-159/night (average) Internet $10/day, Dial the phone = $1.50, no breakfast...luck to get coffee in the lobby. etc.

I never really understood that.

yeah, that is about the going rate in the US , so if it isn't more expensive over there, well use it or don't

That standard practice, price and time. Also 24 hours from first login time is MUCH better than $10/day. If you string it right you can skip days (login in morning, use all day/night, skip internet usage next morning, pay again when you return to the hotel at night, repeat). That's close to 3 full days internet usage, but only paying for 2, assuming you aren't in the hotel all day.
