This HAS to be one of the fastest hirings ever...

Last night, I was browseing OT and saw this thread about applying to Circuit City.... so at probaly 1 am, I filled out an application on there site. I was sleeping this morning, and they called at like 8:30 asking if I wanted to come in today for an interview 😛 I had to work at Staples at 5, so I told them that I could come in at 4. Got there at 4 and the manager was busy so I didnt get to talk till about 4:45. We talked for about 5 minutes, and was like call me tomorrow if I wanted a job. He said I could work in any deparment I wanted pretty much, and that I would start at 9.50 an hour. Heres my dilema.

Staples - been there 2 years...

8.58 + raise next week + 1-2.70 dollar per hour work bonus monthly.

NO discount whatsoever.

Circuit City

9.50 an hour, no bonus or commission. From what I heard, they can buy everything at cost? Can anyone confirm that?


Right now I am thinking that I will go into CC on monday and give it a shot, and if it works out, then consider leaving Staples, unless they can give me a big raise. I was just suprised how easy it was to get a job there.

Ya they hired me the same day I applied also... but I used to work there. And yes discount is cost + 5%. If your managers are cool CC can be a fun place to work.

Not sure.. but that would be pretty cool acuatly.. they are basically right next to each other. I would work at CC just for the discount 😛 I have dealt with the manager several times as a customer and he is a nice guy... he definlty helped me last time I was in there, and was able to cut my friend and I a NICE deal on a HDTV..

I was hired as soon as I left the interview... HR called my cell phone when I reached the lobby and told me to fill out some paperwork online and it would be a done deal.

Will they hire me if I apply? I'm just a high school senior, no A+ certificate or any other prior jobs besides working for parents. I don't know if I qualify.

They hired me without a problem because he knows that I have really good product knowledge and great service. I have been at Staples for 2 years and he said that he needed someone with some experience. They are gearing up for the holiday season, so its worth a shot... just fill out the app online and they will call you.

the discount is cost. unless they've changed it - i quit there in early june.

some circuit city's won't hire high schooler's - it all depends on the managers.

Go to your supervisor at Staples and tell him that you are leaving to go work for Circuit City, unless he has a reason for you not to leave (wink...wink)

Yeah, try telling them you've been offered a job paying more, and raise the wage a little, to like $10 an hour. If they match it, great, now say that to CC, and if they beat it pick whichever you like better.

For you to be making that little after 2 years of service (BTB bonus aside)...its really a shame. 2.70 means you getting MS, ink, esp, dept. bonus, etc. which means your store is doing ok. Talk to the manager...there should be no reason you aren't making at least 11 and hour plus BTB bonus.

I can beat that. I sent an email to a family friend who runs his own company. His reply:

Hi Codey. Yes, we do have an opening. Come see me to talk about it. You can start the day we meet if you like

I saw him the next day. Now I won't be starting for another week (had to give SOME notice at my current job) but I had the job that day.

Thanks FreeBee, you have always been helpful 🙂 I started Staples in 9/24/01 and started at 8. I got a quarter raise after 90 days and then went to 8.58 after 1 year... my review will be coming up on the 24th, and I belive it will be 4-6 percent... the 2.70 was for the month of august and store sales were at like 135% 😛 That will never happen again tilll next year though so its not that big of a factor... I have never missed a day of work and was the number one warranty sales for 2002 and 2001. Yeah now that I think of it, It is pretty lame that I am only making that much... I will talk to the GM and see what he has to say. Thanks again.
