My checking account shows an extra $800 in it and I can't figure out where it came from. I just went through all transactions since April and everything has cleared and is shown. No double deposits or anything. WTF.

Banks can make mistakes and deposit/withdraw from the wrong account. I'm not certain, but I think it's 'yours' if it goes six months without being corrected.

Why? Because I don't want a bank mistake to cost me money. As far as I am concerned the money is not there and I go based off of my numbers.

Let the bank know of their mistake.

My father had some similar amount accidentally deposited in his account. HE laters went to the bank and informed them of their mistake, and it just so happens it was money that some boyscouts raised for a trip. Sure, they would have gotten their money from the bank, but it would probably have been delayed.

It's not your money, why take it?

In no way am I taking it. I have checked all deposits since opening the account and nothing shows up that shouldn't.
