Here's my guess.

A lot of the highest bidders (> $2000) have little or no feedback. I think they were all jokes.

The winning bidder has 50+ feedbacks and only bid once the id was to $8000. He is either a shill bidder or a joke bidder or a scammer.
 
It's obviously a schill bid.
The seller is going to have to go through the hassle of getting a refund on the seller's fee.

How will condoning it and not participating in it yourself prevent people from getting on their soapboxex? That didn't make any sense.

Frankly I find nothing wrong with selling the PS3 on ebay. People who make fake bids are assholes.

its retaliation against the scalping. I am a scalper and knew this was coming, 0 feedback bids/ridiculous bids and what not, happened when I was scalping my 360's. Gotta be careful with my PS3's
