this guy loves Fedex a bit too much

FedEx also said in the Aug. 3 letter that Avila clearly intended to operate a business from his website because he used the .com domain suffix, the "commercial level domain," rather than .net.

WTF. Just because it's .com doesn't mean it's intended a business.

Definitely gets points for creativity. When Fedex' lawyers dopeslap him into next week, I bet UPS gives him a free supply of boxes just for the ad value.

i dont see why fedex has a problem with this. its free advertising for them!
probably some fedex hotshot executive didnt like the word "ghetto" used in conjunction with "Fedex" and got all pissy

Wow. They turned down free advertising?

I guess I can understand why the site 'fedexfurniture.com' would be undesirable since they have no affiliation with them, but a simple 'Please change your domain name' would be sufficient.

I really hope he does switch to UPS.

Jose Avila built a new-and-improved corner desk and shelves using only FedEx materials. He says he works at the desk almost 20 hours a day.

20 hours a day and can't afford furniture? Must work 3 data entry jobs.

He needs to sublet fast.

UPS or DHL should pay this guy money to re-decorate his house with UPS or DHL boxes and make a new website. Silly FedEx.

At least he didn't use USPS boxes - it's apparently a violation of federal law to use them for anything but shipping via USPS.

"Fanciful as his creations may seem, FedEx is not amused. The shipping giant's lawyers have sent Avila letters demanding he take down the site he created to document his project, invoking, among other things, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (.pdf), or DMCA."

Way to go FedEx, I wonder how many other customers they've lost because of that.

there was a guy on ripleys (I dont think the same guy) who did basically the same thing with boxes. All his funiture, including lamps, desks, chairs, his bed, and even his quilt, was made out of cardboard boxes... interesting...
