Here is what happens with "warning shots"

He was annoyed by the noise outside his window.

8-15-2005 Decorated U.S. Marine opens fire outside Mass. nightclub wounding 15 yr old girl & 20 yr man

Daniel B. Cotnoir will be arraigned on Monday on charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and assault with intent to murder after the incident early on Saturday in the city of Lawrence, The Boston Globe said.

Cotnoir had complained to police after a crowd of nearly 30 people gathered outside a nightclub and restaurant near his apartment. After someone hurled a bottle that shattered his bedroom window, Cotnoir fired "a warning shot," the newspaper said.

"He shot into what he thought was a safe area, but there was some ricochet effects that Mr. Cotnoir never intended," his lawyer, Robert F. Kelley, was quoted as saying.

"It was a military-type response to a threatening situation that was civilian in nature."

Cotnoir, a sergeant awarded the 2005 Marine of the Year by the Marine Corps Times, has been struggling psychologically since returning from Iraq in 2004, Kelley said.

Sorry Dave, apples and oranges.

Yep, apple bullets and orange bullets.

However, a falling bullet can harm so guns should never be fired into the air.

This is dove shot he was using, not rifle bullets.
It is legal to fire weapons that you legally own on your own property if it is in the county.

What does not seem legal is this congregation of intruders blocking and on this mans property. You have a right to protect your property, even by force if necessary.

Maybe he should put up some no tresspassing signs and shoot a few people on his land as is his right.

An electric fence might help. It works with cows.

No, rural Texas and suburban Mass. Shotgun in the clear air and bullet into the dark.

The Texas man was stupid, but not dangerous. The Marine reminds me of Billy the Kid.

I think you will find that there are quite a few gun aficionados here and that is not something reserved for the republicans on the board.

True. In this case it's more about the press making something out of nothing.

LIBERAL SCARED!
If shooting at a group of unarmed women whose politics you don't agree with is now considered an act of bravery, we should all be scared.

Shooting at a group of unarmed women? Disagreeing with them politically? WTF? Did you go to the National Enquirer School of Fact Reporting?

LMAO! No where was it said it was a rifle nor shooting at or even near the people. He simply shot bird shot from his shotgun preparing for dove season on his private farm. Perfectly normal occurance and legal.

Here is a thought, this is adjoining the Presidents property where he and his bodyguards are situated at also. They were not threatened, they are not federally investigating this law abiding hunter, but the media is!

Firing a gun in the air as a means of warning people, who BTW, aren't bothering him at all, is linked to protecting private property? They are merely, "blocking his view" and "road", as if the road is his. He has only been there 6 years and chose to live next to Bush, so he can whine all he wishes. If you don't care, why respond?

It's not their road either.

At times, the protesters, their numbers swollen by crowds of reporters, have blocked the road

That sounds threatening to me. Living where he does, he probably should avoid firing weapons randomly. He could end up with a Secret Service boot up his beehind.

Shotgun blasts startle anti-war protesters

Monday, August 15, 2005; Posted: 1:35 a.m. EDT (05:35 GMT)

CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- Anti-war protesters outside President Bush's ranch here were startled Sunday by gunshots fired by a Texas rancher frustrated by the group's presence.

"Well, I'm getting ready for dove season," Larry Mattlage, 62, told reporters of the shots fired around 10 a.m. (noon EDT). Asked if there was an underlying message to the shots, which he fired harmlessly into the air, Mattlage told a reporter, "Figure it out for yourself."

The protesters are led by Cindy Sheehan, a California woman whose son was killed in Iraq, and who has vowed to remain outside of Bush's ranch until the president meets with her. She and other anti-war protesters set up a makeshift camp in Crawford more than a week ago.

"Would you want someone invading your house for a long time and blocking your view and blocking your road?" asked Mattlage, a six-year resident of Crawford who said he had originally been sympathetic to the protesters' cause.

"They as American citizens have a right to march, to protest."

But throngs of anti-war protesters have parked on his land and set up portable bathrooms on the rural road that runs by his property. At times, the protesters, their numbers swollen by crowds of reporters, have blocked the road, he said.

"I just want them to pack the damn tents and go where they came from," Mattlage said. "They made their point and everybody understands it."

McLennan County Sheriff Larry Lynch said Mattlage had broken no laws.

"He's on his property, so he's fine," he said. "Everybody needs to use restraint in this situation ... This is a situation that has taken all these folks by storm."

Sheehan said protesters have been "good neighbors" to the people living near Bush's ranch.

"If the neighbor is tired of having us here, he should talk to his other neighbor, George Bush, and ask George Bush to come out and meet with me, and then we'll leave," she said.

Reminds me of this guy....here
Shooting a gun as some sort of warning to antiwar protesters because they block a road is ridiculous. Does he really think they will just leave if he fires shots?

Good, I hope he hit about 110% of them on accident.
