It disgusts me that until the whole situation was going to hit television, no policeman gave a crap that his laptop was stolen. Even with the overwhelming amount of evidence telling the police exactly where to go to retrieve it. And yet police departments nationwide complain of being understaffed and underfunded while spending stupid amounts of resources searching for drugs and speeders.

Absolutely stupid.

I believe the cops call this a FIDO situation. They don't care. The way they see it, it's just one of a million things that get stolen each day. They just file a report and throw it in the dustbin. Oakland is apparently one of the most violent cities in the US. Guess the cops figure they have bigger fish to fry.

Glad he got his laptop back though. Thieves aren't counting on tech savvy people. That's one greasy looking guy. The second pic is priceless.

You know, if I stole a computer/laptop I would turn off wireless and whatever then search through it for any good stuff then formate it.

Glad the guy got it back, pathetic that the cops couldn't even send someone to take care of this when the guy had all the info they needed to do it asap. No wonder people just call up the news station for anything nowadays, it at least gets shit down.

Haha that's a smart service to start up for $15/yr with what amounts to a free dynamic DNS updater and a remote access software.

cops must be the same everywhere. I had 2 bicycles stolen from a closed parking place. because of the specifics of the location, the thieve must be someone from my appartement block who has vision on my parking spot. Reported it to the police and they even acknowledged that it must be one of my neighbours but they didn't bother for the rest

One of the comments said it could be staged to give advertising to Hidden.
It's 100% speculation, but that's awesome marketing! :)

It's definitely possible. Many thieves don't keep the stolen goods themselves, they sell it on to someone else. You don't want to be directly associated with your stolen goods. Also if it was stolen from an apartment, he must have stolen more items (jewelry etc.).

Either way, ff you're stealing a laptop, it's probably a good idea to re-format the drive. :)

Personally I think that laptops and mobile phones should have a significant amount of C4 built into them that can be detonated remotely.
