I was thinking along the same lines. Assuming this ceasefire results in success, a lot of credit will go to Morsi which will in turn make him more inclined to be responsible in the future. Plus I can't believe that there weren't at least some side discussions and understandings about the continuation of the Eygptian/Israeli peace treaty, which is really the 800 lb gorilla in the room.

I believe that this ceasefire will last for some time but eventually it will be broken.

I dont think Morsi deserves that much credit, remember that this guy and his party were talking about taking back Jerusalem. He is only doing this since he needs the aid from the US to help keep the country together

Hopefully the ceasefire lasts

Hopefully, Obama is forging some measure of a fruitfully pragmatic working relationship with Morsi.

Yeah, yeah, I know, the Middle East is where hopeful optimism goes to die.

But, on this day of giving thanks, I give thanks for this one slim ray of hope that constructive pragmatism will trump ugly, emotional, centuries deep, tribal ideology.

A guy can dream, can't he?

All that I'm saying? Give peace a chance.

It's a nice thought, but peace isn't whats wanted. Total destruction, genocide, vengeance, those are what drive the situation.
Reasonable people can see that a solution is possible, reasonable people can understand that everyone involved isn't going to get everything they want, reasonable people would see that the path of never ending conflict always ends in death and despair. Reasonable people seem to be the only ones not involved.

If Morsi wanted peace, he'd take Gaza for himself. Egyptian citizenship to all those living in it. Open borders to draw them out of that rat hole, then a stronger DMZ and Egyptian military stopping the terrorists.

That's not going to happen.

Meet the new Egyptian boss, same as the old boss. Maybe even worse in some respects. Another despot in the making... What is it with Arab leaders and authoritarianism? It seems as soon as one is democratically elected, he changes into the antithesis of democracy and makes sure he cannot be subsequently forced out of power by another election or the courts. They have no respect for the institution of democracy. How many generations of politicians will it take for this mentality to change and for them to learn to respect that you can be elected and you can also be defeated later if the people wills it at a subsequent election, and be re-elected, etc... Is it because they fear the following leader of the country would incarcerate/murder them?

Just seems a regular pattern amongst Arab leaders...

Sounds like the order of the day needs to be how to create rational people

ok...I can see that happening.......so lets talk about who will break the cease fire?

IMO the cease fire will be broken by some group that has obvious ties to hamas or the Palestinians and they will start the rockets again...

I'm sorry Morsi proved himself a dictator in sheep's clothing. I too had hoped something positive would happen and that the talk of the Muslim Brotherhood being untrustworthy was exaggerated, but I was willing to let hope outweigh other factors. Still I'm glad I risked being wrong because sometimes taking a risk on being wrong for the possibility of a better day is worth it.

Unfortunately I cannot go back to that now. I trust neither Morsi nor the Muslim Brotherhood in any capacity. A significant part in analysis will be the assumption that words and acts are based on a desire for influence and power over and above the norm. Sorry Dave, I wish you were right.

You are crazy.

You know what is going on in that whole region now?

Egypt, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, the whole cabal of them backed by Russia and China are joining forces to attack Israel and then the U.S.

You ain't seen nothing yet.

They know the U.S. is getting weaker by the day thanks to the Rich Republicans and they will start WWIII.

You will wish Red Dawn was only a movie.

But the Republicans and the 1% will suffer. Isn't that worth it in your equation?

Believe me, I do really, really wish Red Dawn was only a movie . . . but that's not important now.

So, Dave, do you like gladiator movies? :p

From reports, Israel made sure that there could be no waffling of responsibility. Anything coming out of Gaza is Hamas responsibility. No passing the buck. It is interesting that Palestinians on Gaza and WB think that Hamas forced the ceasefire on Israel. This will the the chance for Hamas to demonstrate what they can accomplish with blaming Israel. For Israel, if Hamas does as expected, Israel again will be blameless and able to justify a bigger stick if needed.

It would be mice if this actually broke the log jam for peace :thumbsup,

You've always been pretty unstable Dave, but I honestly believe you're now going to a place where the rest of us can't reach you.
